MB&F LM1 Legacy Machine N°1 Limited Edition in Platinum with Blue Dial (Specs and Price)

A tribute to fine and antique watchmaking together with MB&F spirit: that was the goal of the Legacy Machines when Max Büsser presented it. Remember the LM1, the first of the collection and certainly Monochrome’s preferred one. We loved it in Red Gold and in White Gold. Now, we have to love the MB&F LM1 in platinum with electric blue dial, just like the LM2 Limited Edition.

When we look at MB&F (young) history, we can already think about two watches using this same theme: white metal associated with a blue dial. The first one is the LM1, in a very special edition created together with the Chinese artist Xia Hang and showing a micro-sculpture to indicate the power reserve. This one was available in White Gold with a dark blue dial. The other one is the LM2 that was presented in a limited edition of 18 pieces (almost all are sold now), a platinum cased watch with an electric blue dial. Considering the success of this edition, MB&F chose to use the same codes, applied to the Legacy Machine N°1, with a limited edition of 33 pieces.

This combination could have been risky and unusual for a watch paying tribute to the antique times of watchmaking. While the Red Gold and White Gold are using a classical light or dark silver dial, the platinum edition plays another partition, more bright and modern, with this coloured and slightly eccentric blue dial. However, as we said, collectors had some great interest for this combination. And frankly, the result is truly pleasant in the flesh. The electric blue works perfectly with the very cold, almost blueish, colour of platinum (it is whiter than white gold).

For the rest, the MB&F LM1 platinum limited edition remains 100% similar to the previous editions – and we’re happy of that. It brings back this unique dial, composed of a very large (14mm) floating balance wheel held by a 3D bridge, two totally independent time zones (using translucent lacquered dials, visually close to old porcelain dials) and a vertical power reserve indicator. Of course, the steampunk theme wanted by Max and his friends is always part of the package.

The back of the MB&F LM1 is also extremely pleasant – all due to the genius Kari Voutilainen, associated to the concept as consultant for the finishing. The movement looks like these old pocket-watches calibres, with curved bridges, large barrel and ratchet wheels and oversized jewels inserted in gold chatons. Finishings are set to very high standards: large Geneva Stripes, hand engraved names and logos, polished screws slots and superb (and very large) bevelled angles (with internal angles, something that only a human hand can achieve). Of course, all the wheels and screws are also finished with high standards.

This new edition of the MB&F LM1 in platinum shows that this model is far from being dead and that it still pleases the collectors. The association of platinum and electric blue is somehow strange in the context of a 19th century / steampunk inspired watch, but in the end, MB&F really worked out.
