Pre-Baselworld 2017 – MCT Dodekal One D110, With Digital-Mechanical Hour Indication
One thing to know about MCT Watches… They don’t do things like the others, and when it comes to play with the display of time, let’s all agree that their watches, with large numerals displayed on rotating prisms are simply on the other side of the planet, compared to traditional hands. Well, for Baselworld 2017, Denis Giguet (founder of MCT) comes with again something unusual, a digital hour indication recalling LCD screens of old electronic devices – but don’t worry, no quartz movements have being used here. Here is the MCT Dodekal One D110 and its super-cool hour display.
At first sight, the MCT Dodekal One D110 is completely in the vein of previous creations from the brand. Externally, we find back the great square case (with a reasonable 42mm x 42mm size) and highly designed lugs, with an opened center part. The case is mostly titanium, but several versions will be available. The first one is a traditional full titanium version, without coating. The second one is showing black DLC-coating on the caseback and the bezel, while a middle-insert, which also comprises the lugs, is made in 18k pink gold. Both come with a mostly black dial, still with some colored accents that recall the material of the case (silver on the titanium version and gold on the black version). Yet, there are some novelties on the dial side.
The main attraction of the MCT Dodekal One D110 is its display. For the minutes, nothing too complex. A short, red-painted hand runs over the dial in 60 minutes. Yet, don’t imagine it to be a simple hand either, as it doesn’t rotate on the central axis. In fact, it is driven by the wheel you can see on the lower-left part of the dial, which drives a peripheral wheel around the central indication. And what a central indication. The concept of the MCT Dodekal is actually to reinterpret the 1970s electronic watches, with their basic LCD display (remember those black batons on a green screen). Thus, proudly exposed in the middle is a large double-digit display for the hours (from 0 to 12), but driven by a complex haute-horlogerie mechanism.
This digital jumping-hour display is driven by a rotating plate, guided by a circular cam, with several segments printed in white that rotate and let appear the correct hour. Compared to several other watches with this type of display, it seems to be an ingeniously designed one, as using a overall rather basic (in the way that it uses not too many movable parts). Thus, it will certainly remain reliable. Once again, the strength of MCT with the Dodekal One D110 have been to create a complex display, away from the traditional hands, while keeping a great legibility of the time.
To power this MCT Dodekal One D110 and its digital display is a new movement, calibre MCT-D1, an automatic engine with solid gold micro-rotor. it beats at 2.5Hz, offers 50 hours of power reserve and features no less than 62 rubies. The movement, as always with the brand, is hand finished with Geneva stripes and anglage on the bridges.
The MCT Dodekal One D110 will availabel in twice 25 pieces (titanium and black / gold), priced at CHF 55,000 for the titanium version and CHF 65,000 for the black and gold version. More details on mctwatches.com.

Hi Brice,
thanks for sharing. Indeed MCT always surprises for the way they show time.
It would be great to see a video of the display in action….

I agree with Andrea. I’d like to see the mechanical variant of an LED digital in motion. Then it looks like its more than well worth the money.
