OMEGA Seamaster Planet Ocean 36th America’s Cup Limited Edition

Omega has just announced its role as the official timekeeper of the 36th America’s Cup that will be held in Auckland, New Zealand, from the 6th to the 21st of March 2021 and will see the Defender Emirates Team New Zealand racing against the winner of the Prada Cup, the Challenger Selection Series, with the winner being the first team to score seven points. This will mark the third time in history that OMEGA has served in the prestigious sailing race. The moment will also provide another chance for OMEGA to celebrate its long-standing partnership with Emirates Team New Zealand. This special relationship began alongside the legendary sailor Sir Peter Blake in 1995 and has continued since then. To celebrate the news, the brand releases the new OMEGA Seamaster Planet Ocean 36th America’s Cup Limited Edition.

OMEGA Seamaster Planet Ocean 36th America’s Cup Limited Edition

The new limited edition watch is based on the classic Seamaster Planet Ocean 600m. It comes in a 43.50mm stainless steel case and is fitted with a blue ceramic diving bezel, which incorporates white and red liquid ceramic to create a 5-minute countdown for racing. It is water-resistant to 600m or 2000ft. The polished white ceramic dial is highlighted with blue and red touches. It features the competition’s name transferred at 6 o’clock. The counterweight of the central second hand comes in the shape of the ‘Auld Mug’ – the America’s Cup logo.

The exhibition caseback is also emblazoned with the competition’s logo and provides a view of the OMEGA Master Chronometer Calibre 8900. The self-winding twin-barrel movement is regulated by a Co-Axial Escapement with a free-sprung balance and silicon balance spring. Running at 25,200 vibrations per hour, it has an autonomy of 60 hours when fully wound. A certified Master Chronometer, approved by METAS, it is resistant to magnetic fields up to 15,000-gauss.

The OMEGA Seamaster Planet Ocean 36th America’s Cup Limited Edition is worn on a blue structured rubber strap with red edges and white stitching, and is secured to the wrist by a steel folding buckle. This limited edition of 2,021 pieces retails for EUR 6,600 or CHF 6,500.
