Norqain Adventure Sport Automatic

Based in Nidau, near Biel/Bienne, Norqain is a fully independent watch manufacturer offering functional, versatile watches. Ben Kuffer’s (the brand’s CEO) family has been developing and producing watches for decades. In particular, his father used to own and manage Roventa Henex SA, a large Private Label manufacturer working with several prominent Swiss brands. This expertise is now used to develop the family brand and its range of well-rounded watches. And today we take a look at the nice and well-equipped Norqain Adventure Sport Automatic.

Norqain Adventure Sport Automatic

As its name suggests, the Adventure Sport is a collection of functional, robust watches with an instrumental look, designed for active outdoor use. This specific model comes in two versions: an automatic chronograph and an automatic three-hander, with which we are going hands-on here.

Norqain Adventure Sport Automatic

A well-priced, well-equipped no-nonsense tool watch, with its own personality.

The Norqain Adventure Sport is a watch that makes a pleasant first impression. It is compact and oozes quality when you handle it. One of the firsts things that caught my eye is its dial that stands out with its distinctive “Norqain” herringbone pattern. Inspired by the brand’s mountain logo, it creates great depth and visual presence. The model we picked for our review is a 316L steel version with a grey dial highlighted by sporty bright orange touches. The date window at 3 o’clock is framed by a thin line. The bezel marker, the elongated applied indexes and hands come with good lume. The glow allows for great legibility in all conditions.

The 42mm case is precisely adjusted and well executed. Its rotating bezel features a grey ceramic insert matching the colour of the dial. The knurled edge offers an excellent grip. It clicks precisely and smoothly to measure elapsed times. The crown is screw-down and water-resistance is rated 10 ATM / 100m. Last but not least, like all Norqain watches, there is a steel plaque on the side of the case that can be engraved to personalize your watch.

Turning the watch over the exhibition caseback provides a view of the automatic movement inside. The Norqain calibre NN09 is an ETA 2824. This ubiquitous, tried-and-tested calibre will be a precise and reliable ally. Indicating the hours, minutes, seconds and the date, it runs at 28,800 vibrations per hour with a 38-hour power reserve. It is personalized with a Norqain engraved rotor.

On the wrist, the dimensions are reasonable enough for great wearing comfort and adaptability to most wrists. The ergonomic lugs ensure a snug fit even if the strap was a tad stiff (at least at first).

Price and availability

The Norqain adventure sport is available in different configurations. Prices start at CHF 1,830 in steel with a Cordura fabric strap on pin buckle. It can be fitted with a rubber strap or a steel bracelet.

The brand just launched the ‘Time for Solidarity’ initiative in view of the challenging situation. From March 26th and until further notice, Norqain will donate 15% of each purchase price on their website, to the person, business or institute of your choice and, in addition, make a contribution to your selected watch retailer.
