Omega and the Olympic Games share a long-lasting love story. The Biel-based brand first provided its timing instruments to the games back in 1932, in Los Angeles. Since then, Omega has been the official timekeeper of both Summer and Winter Games, having participated in 29 editions. After the introduction last year of a collection of five Tokyo 2020 Speedmaster watches, Omega now unveils two Seamaster for the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 Countdown.

The Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra Tokyo 2020 Limited Edition

The first of the two models for Tokyo 2020 Countdown, dedicated to men, is based on the well-known Aqua Terra 150m, the all-rounder, semi-elegant watch in the Seamaster collection. As such, the piece is familiar and has been updated to get the Olympic feel.

The case retains the same 41mm diameter, with a flat (non-rotating) bezel, the typical Omega case with lyre lugs and the new conical screw-in crown at 3 o’clock. The watch is classic, brings a mix of casual elegance and robustness and, as such, is a perfect all-rounder.

The movement inside this Seamaster Aqua Terra 150m Tokyo 2020 Countdown is the in-house, Master Chronometer certified calibre 8900. This automatic movement, equipped with Omega technology (co-axial escapement, anti-magnetic properties) features two barrels offering a 60-hour power reserve. The movement is decorated in the usual Omega way, with arabesque Geneva stripes. Specific to this “Tokyo 2020 Countdown” collection, the caseback displays a transferred Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games emblem.

The main specificity of this Aqua Terra Tokyo 2020 Limited Edition is its dial. Made of blue ceramic, it has been laser-engraved with the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games emblem – an interesting pattern that gives depth to the watch, with a combination of polished and matte geometric shaped. Hands and indexes are the same as those found on other models.

The watch (ref. 522.12.41.21.03.001) is delivered on a 20mm structured blue rubber strap attached to the case with polished stainless steel links. Also included in the special edition box is a 3-link stainless steel bracelet. The Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra Tokyo 2020 Limited Edition will be limited to 2,020 pieces and priced at EUR 5,900.

The Omega Seamaster Seamaster Planet Ocean Tokyo 2020 Limited Edition

The second watch in this Tokyo 2020 Countdown is also based on a watch in the collection, however, this time dedicated to ladies. Taking the 39.5mm Planet Ocean 600m as a base, this version plays on the Japanese Flag theme, with full white attire enlightened by several notes of red.

The case of the Seamaster Planet Ocean Tokyo 2020 is made of stainless steel, brushed and polished and presented on a white alligator and rubber strap. A white and light grey NATO strap is also part of the package.

The bezel insert, as well as the dial, are white, polished ceramic. The diving scale is obtained by the Liquidmetal method. As tribute to the year of Tokyo 2020, the number 20 on the bezel is filled with red liquid ceramic. The Tokyo/Japan theme continues on the dial with a special lollipop central seconds hand, with a red tip.

The movement is visible through a special sapphire caseback with a transferred Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games emblem.
