Omega Petrograd Sochi 2014

Earlier this year Omega introduced the Seamaster Planet Ocean Sochi 2014 Limited Edition, two special editions to honor the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games. Today Omega introduces another limited edition for the Sochi games. We don’t know if that means that the Seamaster Planet Ocean models have sold out, but we do like this vintage style watch a lot.

The new Sochi Petrograd Tonneau watch has a striking ressemblance with a model that Omega introduced nine years ago (2004), as a limited edition of 1,915 pieces in the Museum Collection (see photo insert right). It is inspired on a watch that was first introduced in 1915 to the Russian & Eastern Europe market in 1915. This model is therefore named after Petrograd and its design reminds us of the Art Deco of that era.

The original 1915 model is sought after by collectors, and so are the 1,915 pieces of the 2004 Museum collection. This 2004 Museum collection model and the new Sochi Petrograd version are very comparable, although there are some differences!

The new Sochi Petrograd comes in a yellow gold case, while the 2004 version was in red gold. The new model features a silvery-white dial with red numerals (13 to 24) and has blued steel hands. There you have the red, white and blue colors of the Russian flag!

Probably the biggest difference between the 2004 version and the new Sochi Petrograd Tonneau watch is the movement. The new Sochi Petrograd Tonneau watch is equipped with the modern co-axial movement, caliber 2202, an exclusive caliber with special luxury finish.

The 18K yellow gold caseback is engraved with the logo of the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games and the limited edition number. As already said, only 100 models of the Sochi Petrograd will be produced.  The watch comes on a burgundy leather strap complete with an 18K yellow gold buckle.
