After conquering the skies, London based watch maker Bremont known for its aviation pieces looks to the sea. With the HMS Victory as the stage, Bremont launched the Victory watch on July 12. The watch Forbes magazine dubbed, “the coolest watch of 2012.

Of course we already told you about Bremont and shared many details about the scratch resistant case when we reviewed the Bremont Supermarine 500. The new Bremont Victory shares many case details with all other Bremont watches, however steers Bremont to new waters as well…

The HMS Victory is the only eighteenth century ship in existence and the oldest commissioned warship on duty. After a major overhaul, the ship donated a wood block and copper bar with pieces of both built into every Victory watch. Bremont worked with the National Museum of the Royal Navy (Portsmouth) to procure the ship’s materials and produce this limited edition, mechanical retrograde watch. The wood is visible as an inlay on the case back, and the copper constitutes an original hand engraved copper PVD treated mid-case barrel. These watches and this ship are one-of-a-kind. Lord Nelson who captained the HMS Victory at the 1805 battle of Trafalgar would be proud.

Giles Gould of The National Museum of the Royal Navy, “We take any relationship such as this very seriously and we have to be very confident that both HMS Victory and Nelson will be honoured correctly. We have never released original wood/copper that is as old as this and we think what Bremont is building is an amazing tribute. Victory means a lot to us and the Navy and the fact some of the proceeds of the watches sales are going towards the preservation of the Ship all help preserve her for future generations.”

Besides material from the ship, the Victory watch boasts a 43 mm steel or rose gold case. As an upgrade from eighteenth century chronometers, this watch has a BE-83AR chronograph movement with retrograde seconds and retrograde date, a thirty-minute and twelve-hour counter and a 46 hour power reserve. No need for wind in the sails, instead this beauty is powered by a three-legged Glucydur balance with Nivarox 1 mainspring at 28,800 bph. Heated treated blued hands and a classic nautical chapter ring place this time keeper on an officer’s wrist at the ringing of the bells or on the wrist of a modern day wayfarer searching beyond longitude for a legacy.
