The latest Oris Aquis Date 41.5mm comes with a cherry-coloured dial and a matte steel bezel.
The Aquis Date is a versatile 300m dive watch with a solid construction, excellent legibility and handsome styling. Perfect for rugged outdoor activities but still smart enough to wear as a daily beater, the Aquis Date offers excellent value for money and is one of Oris’ best-selling models. The latest Aquis 41.5mm comes with a vibrant eye-catching cherry red dial and a stainless steel bezel.
The Aquis surfaced in 2011 in a 43.5mm case size and in 2018 appeared in a more wearable unisex option in 39.5mm. In response to customer feedback, Oris released the Aquis Date 41.5mm version in 2020. Fully aware that dive watches are no longer used exclusively underwater and are more likely to spend their life on land, Oris submitted its Aquis Date to an extensive facelift in 2017 to refine its overt instrument/tool watch characteristics. The horns are bracelet were reduced in thickness, the screw-down crown and crown guards were also refined to give the watch a sleeker silhouette, the bezel was separated from the case for a better grip, and the hands and indices were given bolder and shaper profiles. The gradient dials featured on the Aquis Date since 2015 also give the watch a more stylish vibe proving that a real tool watch did not have to look utilitarian.
The new Aquis Date 41.5mm with its striking sunray cherry red dial gives the diver a more vibrant personality. The specs might be identical but the vivid colour on the dial and the fact that the bezel does not feature a ceramic insert change the watch radically. Substituting the ceramic unidirectional bezel is a stainless steel insert with a cool sandblasted matte finish and the 60-minute diving scale in relief and polished for extra visibility. This is not the first time a steel bezel with a matte grained finish and polished markings in relief has turned up at Oris; it appeared in 2019 on a special edition Oris Aquis Date Relief model.
The robust steel case construction, with its angular crown guards, well-defined grooves on the bezel and seamlessly integrated bracelet, is designed to withstand extreme sports and depths of up to 300 metres. A domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating protects the dial while a mineral glass on the caseback reveals the automatic movement.
Like other Aquis Date models, the legibility of the dial is excellent. The hour and minute hands, the central seconds hand with its lollipop feature and the applied hour markers are all treated with Super-LumiNova.
For the record, this new Aquis Date 41.5mm is not equipped with the brand’s automatic calibre 400 released in October 2020. Behind the mineral glass caseback is the tried-and-tested Calibre 733, based on a Sellita SW 200-1. This automatic movement beats at 4Hz, has a 38-hour power reserve and the signature red Oris rotor.

The recent Oris releases from the past couple of months are yet to be using their newly developed in-house movement. I guess they’re still clearing their shelves of the older movements.
@Tee Tong – Oris was pretty clear when launching the in-house movement. It will be on top of the range, while Sellita-based watches will remain in collections, in order to offer more accessible models. Both in-house and outsourced movements will coexist.
