Oris Movember Edition 2019 Chronoris

For the last two years, Oris has teamed up with non-profit organization Movember to help fight men’s most problematic physical and mental health issues. After the 2017 and 2018 Movember watches, Oris is today launching a new special version, based on the vintage-inspired 1970s Chronoris. Here’s the Oris Movember Edition 2019, with part of the proceeds to support the Movember foundation. Let’s take a closer look.

Movember

Founded in 2003, Movember has to date supported 1,250 projects globally to promote men’s health and reduce premature death. Its mission is to tackle prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health issues and suicide prevention. By 2007, the movement spread to North America and Europe and is today a global phenomenon. The foundation is supported by celebrities and companies worldwide, and over 5 million “Mo Bros” participate every November, consisting of both men and women growing real (or fake) moustaches to help raise money and awareness. Movember’s actions include fighting prostate and testicular cancer, and suicide prevention. Prostate cancer rates are expected to double in the next 15 years, while testicular cancer rates have doubled in the last 50 years. In addition, suicide is the second leading cause of death among men ages 15 to 29 (over 500,000 men worldwide commit suicide each year).

Oris and Movember share a vision of reducing premature deaths among men by 25% by 2030. Movember is not just about the popular trend of growing a moustache in November, it’s about spreading awareness, community support and physical activity. Aaron Boone, Manager of the New York Yankees, has also joined this partnership, believing that a strong community and culture of support are critical to men’s health, just as they are to a successful team. He also deals with the mental and physical struggles his team experiences, associated with the intense pressure to win.

Oris Movember Edition 2019

The first Chronoris launched in 1970 and was the Oris’ first chronograph. It was inspired by motorsport and has since become an iconic collection in the brand’s portfolio. The Oris Movember Edition 2019 is a special edition of the Chronoris Date, a three-hand watch that’s not a chronograph, but one that sports twin crowns and an internal rotating bezel. The 316L stainless steel cushion case is 39mm in diameter with a domed sapphire crystal and steel caseback and features both brushed and polished elements. The caseback has “Oris Movember Edition” and a moustache logo engraved around the Oris shield. Twin crowns are positioned at 2 and 4 o’clock, with the top crown to change the time and date (and manually wind), and the bottom to rotate the internal bezel. It may look like a Super Compressor, but it’s water-resistant to only 100 metres.

The black dial has applied indices every five minutes with white Super-LumiNova BG W9, which is also present in inserts on the retro gold-plated hour and minute hands. Both the seconds hand and inverted marker on the internal bezel are a contrasting orange, and a framed date window sits at 3 o’clock. The gold printing throughout the dial adds to the retro vibe, including the vintage font of “ChronOris” above 6 o’clock.

Powering the watch is the Oris 733 automatic, based on a Sellita SW200-1. It has 26 jewels, beats at 28,800vph (4Hz) with a 38-hour power reserve. The strap is either a brown leather with steel pin buckle and two heat-stamped Movember moustache logos at the upper ends between the white double stitch, or a stainless steel bracelet with folding clasp. The watch comes in a special edition box with certificate and additional NATO strap.

This Movember piece is not a limited edition and retails for CHF 1,900 with leather strap and CHF 2,100 with steel bracelet (with part of the proceeds going to the Movember Foundation). For more information, oris.ch.
