For several years, Panerai has relied on its R&D ‘Laboratorio di Idee’ to advance its commitment to innovation. In this respect, the brand’s research in the field of high-tech material is next to none. Among the latest additions to the Luminor family is a cool, stealth monochrome edition combining innovative materials and manufacturing technologies. Meet the Panerai Luminor Marina DMLS Titanium 44mm PAM1662.

The new Panerai Luminor Marina PAM1662 combines high-tech features with a stealthy, sporty profile. Its case mixes DMLS Titanium and Carbotech™ (a combo used for Lo Scienziato). Light and resistant, DMLS Titanium is manufactured by Direct Metal Laser Sintering, a 3D-printing technology involving the layer-by-layer sedimentation of metal powder. In short, a laser is used to partially melt particles so they adhere together. In general, additive manufacturing is used by watchmakers for modelling and prototyping. The serial production of watch cases is certainly unusual. The technique allows to create precise and complex shapes without tooling and to further reduce the weight of the case.

The bezel, the crown and its safety lever are in Carbotech™, Panerai’s high-tech carbon composite well-known by the brand’s aficionados since 2015. The caseback is in DLC-coated titanium. Water-resistance is rated at 30 ATM or 300m.

The dark case of the Panerai Luminor Marina DMLS is paired with a monochromatic, unpolished grey sandwich dial with tone-on-tone Super-LumiNova hour markers and hands. The watch is powered by the tried-and-tested in-house calibre P.9010, a large 37.80mm automatic movement displaying the hours, minutes, small seconds and the date. Held under a full balance bridge, its balance runs at 28,800 vibrations per hour. It is fitted with two barrels that can store three days of power reserve when fully wound.

The Panerai Luminor Marina PAM1662 comes on a black Panerai Sportech strap with grey stitching and a pin buckle. The watch is delivered with a spare black rubber strap. Price is set at EUR 15,000. For more information, please visit www.panerai.com.
