Panerai Luminor Marina Fibratech 44mm PAM01163
A new Luminor moulded in a new composite based on basalt fibres.
Panerai’s ‘Laboratorio de Idee’ has been a platform to explore and innovate regarding materials, today a field of expertise for the brand. The latest addition to the portfolio of high-tech materials is Fibratech, made from mineral fibres produced by the fusion of basalt rock. Meet the Panerai Luminor Marina Fibratech PAM01163.
Fibratech is a composite material based on basalt rock fibres. Thin layers are superimposed in a precise orientation and then consolidated through a process where pressure and temperature are controlled. The matrix to bind this reinforcement together is a polymer. This creates a non-homogenous matte grey appearance with random pattern depending on the cut. From a technical perspective, Fribatech is 60% lighter than steel, resilient and highly resistant to corrosion. An appropriate material for such a large diver’s watch.
The PAM01663, the first Panerai watch to use Fibratech, combines this new material with the brand’s proprietary high-tech carbon composite. Carbotech is used to manufacture the bezel, the crown and its locking lever. The caseback is in micro-sandblasted titanium. The 44mm case is water-resistant to 30 ATM or 300m.
The watch is fitted with the Luminor signature sandwich dial, in gradient blue with Arabic numerals and hour markers in white Super-LumiNova – green luminescence. The movement is the in-house automatic calibre P.9010. This large twin-barrel movement stores 3 days of power reserve when fully wound. Consisting of 200 components including 31 jewels, it displays the hours, minutes, smalls seconds and the date.
The PAM01663 comes on a Panerai Sportech strap, a woven material giving a waterproof rubberized effect. Blue with white stitching, it is fitted with a DLC-coated titanium trapezoidal pin buckle. A second rubber strap in blue is also supplied, together with a screwdriver to remove the buckle. Retail price for the Panerai Luminor Marina Fibratech 44mm is set at EUR 19,000.
