SIHH 2015 – Panerai Radiomir Firenze 3 days Accacio 47mm PAM00604 – Specs & Price
You’ve seen the brand-new Mare Nostrum, and we showed you the CarboTech and here is the third instalment of the SIHH novelties by Panerai, the rather interesting Radiomir Firenze 3 Days Acciaio. It isn’t highly complicated, nor does it come a brandspanking new material but a rather unique look, harking back to the birthplace of the brand. Here is the Panerai Radiomir Firenze 3 days Accacio 47mm PAM00604 with its fully engraved case in stainless steel (and yes, this is quite an interesting feature).
Florence, Italy, 1936. The birth year and location of a now highly collected brand called Panerai. The dimensions of the very first Radiomir watch are reflected into the very latest. Although the brand is now part of Richemont Group and relocated in Neuchatel, the design of the timepieces is still very reminiscent of yesteryears creations.
The new Panerai Radiomir Firenze 3 days Accacio 47mm PAM00604, a limited edition exclusively available at the Florentine Panerai Boutique, is engraved with a motif that is recurrent in Tuscan history. For instance, the Florentine Lily, originating in 11th century iconography, can be found on the case. It is part of the geometrical and floral motif, engraved into the case and crown.
The engraving is entirely done by hand, and each case takes one craftsman more than a week to finish. The décor is engraved into a finished and assembled brushed steel case, leaving no room to the artisan for an error. Knowing how hard is steel (compared to gold or brass used for movement’s plates), the result is first visually appealing and mainly, it represents quite a technical achievement.
Inside ticks Panerai in-house calibre, the P.3000, which is visible through the sapphire case-back. The large plates of the movement obscure most of the view on the movement, but the balance wheel is visible under the small bridge in the lower right hand quarter. Two mainspring barrels, connected in series, provide 3 days of power as indicated in the name of the watch. The balance wheel, measuring 13.9mm in diameter, oscillates at a rate of 21,600 vibrations per hour. This same movement can be found in the PAM00557, the PAM00504 and the PAM327.
The P.3000 movement is equipped with a system that allows the adjustment of the hour, through the decorated crown, without interfering with the running minutes or the timekeeping of the movement, a useful feature for frequent travellers. The only indications displayed on the trademark sandwich dial are the hours and minutes (no second hand or small second-sub-dial). A luminous back plate provides night-time legibility through the cut-out markers and numerals. The dial is enhanced with a satin sunray pattern, capturing and diffusing light, and covered with a domed sapphire crystal. It is attached to a black alligator strap with contrasting stitching.
The Panerai Radiomir Firenze 3 days Accacio 47mm PAM00604 comes in a run of 99 pieces, and as mentioned only available at the Officine Panerai Boutique on the Piazza San Giovanni in Florence, just opposite of the famous Duomo. It is priced at 17.000 Euros – quite a huge step compared to a Radiomir California 3 Days PAM00424 or a Radiomir S.L.C. 3 Days PAM00425, both priced at 6.700 Euros and using the same Radiomir 47mm case and the same movement. The price of exclusivity and manual engraving.
