People Of London, Get Ready For The Inaugural City Concours Happening This Week, With Glashütte Original and Breguet
If you’re going to be in London this week, put some time in your diary to check out the City Concours. The inaugural event gets underway on the 8th and 9th of June and is being held in the spectacular gardens of the Honourable Artillery Company, a remarkable five-acre open space surrounded by historic buildings in the heart of the Square Mile. On display will be a collection of 80 of the world’s most incredible cars, ranging from the latest supercars to legends of Formula One and Le Mans.
Don’t worry if cars aren’t your thing however, as two of our favorite watch brands, Breguet and Glashütte Original, will also be in attendance as official timepiece sponsors. Visitors to the Glashütte Original Pavillion can enjoy workshops with the company’s head watchmaker, a glass of bubbles or two at their Pop-Up Bar, a preview of the new collections and an exclusive prize draw.
Over at Breguet meanwhile, and on display for the first time in the UK, will be the Breguet Chronograph No. 2023, a dashboard chronograph produced for none other than brilliant car manufacturer Ettore Bugatti. Commissioned in the early 1930s, Mr Bugatti wanted to fit his luxurious “Royale” cars with a chronograph featuring a tachymeter function, intended to be placed in the middle of the steering wheel. Recently acquired by Breguet at auction, the Chronograph No. 2023 belongs to a series of nine car timepieces designed specifically for Bugatti.
Presented in a 67 mm, chrome-plated metal case, it features Breguet’s trademark blued hands and a stunning cream dial inscribed with the words “Spécial pour Bugatti” in contrasting blue, which matches the color of the tachymeter scale. There is also a cumulative minutes counter visible in an aperture at 6 o’clock. Powered by a mechanical movement with a power reserve of eight days, it is wound using a crown located at 6 o’clock.
There will also be live entertainment and plenty to eat and drink throughout the two-day event, which hopefully will be blessed with some sunny London weather. Doors open at 10am on both days and tickets are available online now directly from the City Concours website. Hope to see you there!
