Perrelet Turbine Sung Kang Limited Edition

The result of a partnership with the American actor – known for his apparitions in actions movies, including the Fast and Furious franchise – the Perrelet Turbine Sung Kang is the latest version of the brand’s signature model, meaning a bold and unique watch that features the brand’s signature double rotor system. Presented earlier this year at JCK 2016, this 350-piece limited edition is now launching.

Like the other models of the collection, the Perrelet Turbine Sung Kang features the distinctive “turbine” spinning with the wrist’s motion. This concept appeared as an evolution of the double rotor line. As Abraham-Louis Perrelet was a precursor in the development of the automatic winding watch in the late 18th century, the brand has been featuring a second rotor on the dial side of some of its watches. In 2009, it was transformed into a cool airplane motor inspired turbine revealing an under-dial when spinning and it is now one of Perrelet’s most successful collections.

Perrelet Turbine Sung Kang Limited Edition

Given Sung Kang’s passion for cars and turbo-charged engines, this limited edition features a resolutely masculine and sporty look with automotive inspiration. The hour indication has been off-set: the 12 o’clock marker has been moved to 2 o’clock so the time can be read off more easily while driving. Hour and minutes are indicated with luminescent hands while seconds are shown by a yellow center hand. The logo is transferred under the sapphire glass.

The “turbine” is made of 10 anodized aluminum blades with 5 rear tungsten counterweights. This ensures that the blades rotate and then return to the same place, including the one engraved with Sung Kang initials. Under the turbine, the minutes, highlighted in yellow between 6 and 8 o’clock and red between 8 and 12 o’clock, are visible when the turbine spins freely at full speed – which is rather cool. Better than words, take a look at the movie here to understand and enjoy.

The dynamic 44mm triple lug case comes in black PVD steel and wears well thanks to its soft rubber strap. The crown is integrated within the fluted case band. Its operation is made easier with a safety latch that enables winding and setting when opened (it is fastened with a ball plunger).

The Turbine Sung Kang is powered by the Perrelet P-331 caliber, with automatic winding and running at 28,800 vibrations per hour. This movement is based on the Soprod A-10 caliber (hence it is considered “in-house” as Soprod is a sister company of Perrelet), an equivalent of the ubiquitous ETA-2892. It is visible through the sapphire back and it features a modern finish that contrasts nicely with the dark case. The bridges are sand-blasted. The open-worked rotor is rhodium-plated and engraved with the brand’s logo.
