Bid for a good case, and maybe you can secure that unique M.A.D. 1 in pink....
Watches and charity… When there’s a good cause, many watch brands don’t hesitate long and donate one of their, often unique, creations. Earlier this year, Wei Koh, founder of Revolution magazine and The Rake, reached out to join forces in order to raise money for breast cancer. He baptized this the Pink Dial Project. Nineteen brands have donated watches and the auction started a few days ago, on October 25th. October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and the auction to raise funds for Breast Cancer treatment, research and awareness is ending this weekend, on Sunday the 31st of October.
Every two years, we see how watch brands participate and donate for a good cause, with the Only Watch auction. This year, again, the line-up of remarkable, impressive and über-impressive watches is just mind-boggling. Every two years the Only Watch auction raises millions!
In early 2020, Andrew from Time + Tide Watches quickly organized the Watch & Act! auction to raise funds for the devastating bushfires in Australia. Brands donated watches while watch collectors tried to outbid one another and raise an impressive and very helpful amount of money; in the heat of the fire, they raised more than 200,000 Australian dollars.
The Pink Dial Project auction is taking place at Eric Ku’s auction platform Loupe This. Nineteen watch brands and “watch artist” Julie Kraulis donated creations. Among the entries is Airain with a very cool Type 20 with a pink dial, Bvlgari with an Octo Finissimo in black ceramic with a small second hand and seconds track in pink and a pink dial version of the brand new IWC Big Pilot 43.
And there’s more! Watches by Anordain, Ball Watch, Baltic, Bamford, Jacques Bianchi, Longines, Montblanc, Oris, Panerai, Rado, Roger Dubuis, and a spectacular diamond-set Piaget Limelight. Sinn, TAG Heuer and Zenith all donated a pink dial version of recent models. And Julie Kraulis donated a pink pencil drawing of a Cartier Tank.
Last but certainly not least… MB&F donated a unique version of their M.A.D. 1 that is going to break all records. The M.A.D. 1 is a watch that can’t be bought to start with. Now with some pink parts, it really becomes unique, but you can buy it. MB&F sold the M.A.D. 1 for less than 2k EUR to partners with whom they had worked for years. The idea was to grant them the possibility to own a sort of an MB&F because all ‘normal’ MB&F watches are most likely out of their range. A very likeable idea! Now, this unique pink version is the lot with the highest bid so far… USD 86,000.
Kudos to Wei Koh for this initiative and all participating watch brands for donating a watch. And good luck to all bidders! Be fast… the auction ends this coming Sunday!
