The Porsche Design Chronograph “911 GT3 With Touring Package” Edition
A special timepiece dedicated to the Porsche 911 GT3 with Touring Package.
Few cars have such a strong following as the Porsche 911. It is one of the classic dream cars for most Petrolheads, especially when considering cars like the Porsche 911 GT3, the preferred choice of purists. Add in the factor of high-performance packages to make a Porsche 911 even better than it already is, something Porsche has mastered, and one can imagine the excitement of car enthusiasts (like me!). For the launch of the new “Touring” version of the 911 GT3, Porsche Design has created a special watch; the Porsche Design Chronograph 911 GT3 With Touring Package.
The combination of 911 and GT3 dates back to the 996 generation of Porsche 911, but chronologically it can be traced back to the Porsche 911 Carrera RS from 1973. It indicates a relatively stripped-down, amped-up performance variant known as one of the most hardcore and pure versions of the iconic sports car. It has a naturally aspirated flat-6 engine and a whole bunch of technical upgrades, including an impressive aero kit. The Touring Package, though, leaves the massive rear wing of the “standard” GT3 out of the equation in favour of an integrated, automatically-extending rear spoiler.
To celebrate the launch of the Porsche 911 GT3 with Touring Package car, Porsche Design has created a bespoke timepiece to match. Of course, you can customise your own Porsche Design Chronograph 911 watch with the help of the online configurator, which allows you to choose genuine Porsche 911 paints and leathers, for instance, as well as wheel-shaped rotors to match your car. The Porsche Design Chronograph 911 GT3 With Touring Package is offered exclusively to owners of the car, with the option of further customisation tweaks.
On the technical side, nothing changes; the updates are purely on the visual side. The glass bead-blasted natural titanium case features a tachymeter scale on the bezel. The metallic agate-grey colour is similar to the paintwork on the car. The outer ring on the dial is black. For maximum contrast, the chronograph hands are yellow to match the rev counter in the instrument cluster of the car; the other hands are white. The matte black dial is finished with a white and yellow minute track, recessed chronograph counters at 6 and 12 o’clock and a running indicator at 9 o’clock. Lastly, a date window is positioned at 4 o’clock.
The proprietary movement, Porsche Design Caliber WERK 01.200, is the same as in other Porsche Design Chronograph 911 watches, with the exception of the rotor, which is visible through the sapphire crystal caseback. The flyback chronograph movement is based on the tried-and-tested Valjoux 7750 automatic chronograph with COSC chronometer certification. It is, however, modified to Porsche Design specifications, both technically and aesthetically. Customers of the car can choose from six different rotor colours to match the wheels of their car. More customisation options can be selected through the online configurator (up to 1.5 million different combinations).
The Porsche Design Chronograph 911 GT3 With Touring Package is reserved exclusively for Porsche 911 GT3 vehicle owners, you can now configure your timepiece to suit every occasion. Additional configuration options are exclusively available in Germany, Switzerland, the UK, and the US. The special edition starts at EUR 7,750, including taxes. Upgrades available on the configurator are charged separately.
