Chopard is a brand too often seen as a jeweler or a creator of simple ladies watches. However, in the range of watches, there is collection that we, at Monochrome-Watches, especially praise. The Chopard L.U.C timepieces are all manufactured in-house with an exceptional attention to details and superb finishes. The latest of them is to be revealed at Baselworld 2015 and it’s called the Chopard L.U.C Regulator.

The Chopard L.U.C Regulator is, as its name suggests, displaying time in a regulator way, meaning two separated indications for the hours and the minuted. The Chopard L.U.C Regulator however features more than just this specific display, as it also comes with a GMT function, a date, a small second-sub dial and a power reserve indicator. Quite a loaded dial you might think, but legibility remains extremely good.

Chopard L.U.C Regulator - 1

The sun-burst silver dial comes has no less than 6 indications: on the central axis we can find the minutes, with a large hand and a minute-track around the dial (classical layout for a regulator), at 3 comes the indication of the hours, at 4:30 is the date window, at 6 sits the small-second, at 9 is the the 24-hour second time-zone (that can be adjusted independently with a pusher at 8) and, finally, at 12 we can find the power-reserve gauge. All the indications are however easily recognizable and the legibility remains pleasant. The dial is certainly loaded but has a clean, elegant look.

Chopard L.U.C Regulator - 3

The Chopard L.U.C Regulator comes in a large 43mm case – 2mm or 3mm would have been welcome – but the thickness is still reasonable at 9.8mm. The case is made of 18k rose gold, alternating with polished surfaces (on the bezel and the top of the lugs) and vertically brushed surfaces on the case bands. The Chopard L.U.C Regulator comes on a alligator strap (also lined with alligator skin) stitched by hand, with a 18 rose gold pin-buckle.

Chopard L.U.C Regulator - 4

The movement of the Chopard L.U.C Regulator brings quite its load of horological sweetness. Together with its complicated display, it also features a very long 216 hours (9 days) power-reserve, due to the Quattro® technology, meaning 4 barrels. Even with such a power, the calibre L.U.C 98.02-L has contained proportions – 30.4mm x 4.90mm. This movement is also precise, as it comes with a C.O.S.C chronometer certification.

The finish of this movement is also impressive, as it is stamped with the Geneva Hallmark, the assurance that all the pieces are finished with the highest level of details. The main-plate is circular-grained and the bridges are decorated with Geneva stripes and chamfered by hand, with polished beveled angles. Because of the 4 barrel, the movement doesn’t show a lot from its technicality but its details remains very pleasant.

The Chopard L.U.C Regulator is priced at 27.970 Euros.
