SIHH 2018 – Alexandre Peraldi of Baume & Mercier, On The New Collection
Live from SIHH 2018 – B&M’s Director of Design breaks down the new Clifton collection.
Last week, we told you about a watch brand that would be debuting a new watch at SIHH, complete with its own proprietary movement. Nothing too unusual about that, the major names introduce new movements all the time. What did make this news stand out, was the fact that the watch from Baume & Mercier’s Clifton collection, and the chronometer-certified proprietary movement was equipped with a silicon hairspring and offered an impressive 5-day power reserve. All for less than CHF 2,500. We spoke to Alexandre Peraldi, Director of Design at Baume & Mercier about this latest development as well as others in the Clifton range.
As you can see from the above video, the new Clifton Baumatic 5 Days / Chronometer is a big deal for Baume & Mercier and something the brand is very proud of. Working with ValFleurier (the Richemont-owned movement manufacturer) and the Richemont Research & Innovation team, the company developed a new movement, the self-winding calibre Baumatic BM12-1975A, that would be exclusively manufactured for, and used by, Baume & Mercier. Utilising a number of technical advancements from within the Richemont group, the movement offers a very solid package for what is really a very reasonable price.
In addition to the Baumatic, Baume & Mercier is also continuing to build its sport watch credentials, with a strong focus this year on its partnership with the American motorcycle company, Indian. At one point in the early 20th-Century Indian was the largest manufacturer of motorcycles in the world, and the current owners have been working hard to restore the name to its former glory. In total, three new models have been introduced in the Clifton Club Indian collection, which, according to the brand “epitomizes a lifestyle that blends freedom with a rebellious spirit.” More to follow after SIHH 2018.
