SIHH And Baselworld to Coordinate Their Dates From 2020
The two major watch fairs will both be scheduled in April, as of 2020.
The rumour had been around for some time now, many were hoping for this to happen, and now it’s official. Baselworld and SIHH will coordinate their dates as of 2020. The two major trade shows of the watch industry will synchronize their calendars. The SIHH will be held from 26 to 29 April in Geneva, followed immediately by Baselworld from 30 April to 5 May in Basel. Better yet, the calendars have been synchronized until 2024.
This sound decision – in view of the challenges that these events are facing – is announced just a few days ahead of SIHH 2019 that will soon be throwing its doors open with some 35 brands gearing up to unveil their latest models. In some ways, this means going ‘back to normal’. For years, the Geneva and Basel fairs had been held one after the other in March-April until SIHH announced it would be organized in January. The news means that the watch industry professionals will no longer need to travel twice to Switzerland in a short period of time.
Fabienne Lupo, President and Managing Director of the Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie (FHH), which organises SIHH, stated: “Our two events have always been different, yet complementary. Resynching with Baselworld will further confirm Switzerland as the foremost destination for watchmaking in the world. This is something we welcome wholeheartedly, as it is in the interests of all.”
“Baselworld and the SIHH are working for the industry and its clients. We have sought dialogue with the SIHH and together have found a solution, which benefits visitors, the media, and the entire watchmaking industry enormously,” declared Michel Loris-Melikoff, Managing Director of Baselworld. “This partnership between the two most prominent exhibitions in the industry represents a major breakthrough for the future.”
