Hands-On – Sinn EZM 12, Designed for Air Rescue Service (Specs & Price)
Unusual, with unique features especially designed for Air Rescue Service, the Sinn EZM 12 has been one of our cool surprises from the 2017 edition of Baselworld. A proper tool watch in a class of its own – clearly what you can expect from a brand such as Sinn, the German utilitarian watchmaker.
Like its siblings from the EZM (EinsatzZietMesser stands for mission timer) series, the Sinn EZM 12 is purpose built for a specific mission: air rescue service. A race against time to save lives, every patient should be taken care of in the first ten minutes – platinum 10 minutes – and must arrive in a hospital within an hour – the golden hour.
A proper ‘tool’ watch designed specifically for such rescue missions, the Sinn EZM 12 features unique characteristics. The rotating inner bezel (hence the need for two crowns) allows emergency crews to keep track the tight time frames to save patients. The external rotating bezel allows to monitor the times to administrate medication. The center seconds hand and pulsometric scale allows to record heart rate (15 pulse base). The 4 pointer design of this ‘PulsRotor’ enables quick recording every 15 seconds.
Another interesting feature of the watch is the possibility to keep it clean easily, which is critical in a medical environment. The case avoids any sharp angles that may scratch silicone gloves. The silicone strap and the bezel can be removed to clean the watch perfectly. The smart system is rather impressive as no tool is needed to remove the strap hooked to the spring-bars, although it is super-safely secured to the case. The bezel can be removed also extremely easily, simply with the knife delivered with the watch (or any other blade).
The EZM 12 case is built around the ETA 2836 automatic movement and is made of bead-blasted steel manufactured with TEGIMENT technology. First presented in 2003, this technology provides high protection against scratches. It is not a coating but a hardening of the surface of the material itself – thus guaranteeing that the metal will keep its properties within time.
The Sinn EZM 12 is indeed well thought-out and its impressive list of purpose-built features includes water resistance to 200m, air-dehumidifying technology, magnetic field protection up to 80’000 A/m (thanks to a soft iron cage) and a reliability tested from -45°c up to +80°c. And if you have no plans to rescue lives in the next few days, it does not really matter. The Sinn EZM 12 is a cool, sporty and sturdy watch that will be just a great daily wearer too. Very nice watch but would stick with G shock
Hi Xavier,
thanks for sharing.
I’ve always loved Sinn, one of the purest toolwatches manufacturer out there.
Sooner or later I’ll got one (possibly the mighty U1).
The EZM12 is an exceptional piece, which put aeshtetics and utility toghether in the best way. One of the most technical tools I’ve ever seen – and for a purpose often undervalued.

Hi Andrea, thanks. It was interesting to have the opportunity to get my hands on some of Sinn’s models when in Baselworld – some really interesting watches… Best, Xav.
You know what they say “It’s a Sin to not own a Sinn” especially if you have a job that requires precise timing and your watch will take abuse.
