Pre-Baselworld 2017 – Slim d’Hermès Quantième Perpétuel Platine
Clean, inspired, well-powered, and from a highly regarded Maison that was not always inclined towards making watches but has earned the respect of watch lovers over time, the Slim d’Hermès was a refreshing surprise when introduced. Its style is undoubtedly elegant and sleek, while sharing the codes of this famous brand. The best came from a superb ultra-thin movement with micro-rotor, which could even be fitted with a complex perpetual calendar mechanism. For the 2017 edition of Baselworld, the latter comes in a new variation, the Slim d’Hermès Quantième Perpétuel Platine / Blue dial.
When we first saw the Slim d’Hermès here at Monochrome we were pleasantly surprised. Indeed, as hardcore collectors, Hermès might not be the brand we think of first for high-end watches. Still, there are some pretty interesting models in the collection, like the Arceau Temps Suspendu. But the Slim takes things a step further. It places the brand into the circle of serious watchmaking, with an elegant, well designed, well powered and competitively priced offer. In our review, we concluded that “Besides what you may think about Hermès, this watch is no fashion statement. It’s watch that should be taken seriously. Despite being suitable for everyday use, it was important to maintain the Hermès allure. I believe they have achieved this in its refinement of the dial, the beautiful finishing on the micro-rotor movement and the super soft Hermès leather strap.” And you know we can be pretty hard to please sometimes here at Monochrome.
This combination was later pushed even further, with the addition of a perpetual calendar in the Slim d’Hermès Quantième Perpétuel – and remember that the QP is one of the horological masterpieces. Already, we are in front of a serious watch, powered by a serious Vaucher movement, with Hermès’ own perpetual calendar module on top. The beauty and clean look of this watch, perfectly synthesized by the font used for the indexes – which are alone a treatise of design – has been maintained despite the integration of 4 sub-dials for the perpetual calendar (month/leap year, moonphase, date and second time zone).
For Baselworld 2017, the Slim d’Hermès Quantième Perpétuel will be unveiled in a new variation, combining Platinum case and blue dial – a safe but elegant combo. The round 39.5mm case retains its typical shape and is secured to the wrist by a blue strap in Hermès leather (of course). A nice detail is the moonphase indication made of a mother-of-pearl moon against an aventurine glass sky. More details during the Baselworld 2017.
