TAG Heuer celebrates the 30th anniversary of Ayrton Senna’s first victory at the Monaco Grand Prix, releasing three special edition watches in tribute to the legendary Brazilian driver. In his brilliant, way-too-short career, Ayrton Senna roared to three world championships, 41 victories and 65 pole positions and is still regarded as one of, if not the, best ever drivers in F1! The watches were unveiled this week-end in Monaco and we have live photos.
The first, and for us at Monochrome, most interesting of these watches is a sporty, racing-inspired Heuer01 chronograph. It is clad in PVD steel paired with red accents and the Senna design elements, including the S logo which is reminiscent of a S-chicane on a race track.
The 45mm case features a black ceramic bezel with a tachymeter scale. The crown is made of steel and rubber. The pushers are in PVD steel – the start/stop pusher is highlighted in red. The skeleton dial (Drive Timer lay-out) with a skeleton date disc is highly technical; it comes with various finishes to create a sense of depth and contrast.
The sapphire case back is tinted and bears the Senna and TAG Heuer logo. It allows viewing of the in-house Heuer 01 automatic column wheel chronograph movement. This 13’’’ caliber ticks at 4 Hz. for a power reserve of 50 hours. The shape of the rotor is reminiscent of a steering wheel. The column-wheel is red.
The TAG Heuer Carrera Heuer01 SENNA 2017 edition is worn on the signature S-shaped link bracelet. I am usually not a fan of the ‘link’ bracelet but I think it works very well here with the black finish and automotive background. In addition, it is particularly relevant as it was worn by Senna himself.

Apart from the fact that as a chronograph its basically unreadable and looks like a bunch of spare parts cobbled together its a nice watch .
Yes quite ‘busy’ but it looks technical and rather cool
