If you’re still here it’s that, actually, our talks over Zoom were somehow entertaining… Well, at least we had fun doing them! So we meet again, Andrew (Time+Tide), Robert-Jan (Fratello), Wei (Revolution) and I, and this time the topic was “Batshit Crazy Watches” but… We all had a different interpretation of this, ending up in a very, very weird discussion and more disagreements than agreements, as Wei, the host of the day, tries to get this round. And in advance, sorry Panerai and your e-Steel…!
Just like the days before this third instalment, we all threw in some cool items to be gifted, randomly to anyone who (intelligently) comments on our rant. AP technically wasn’t part of Watches & Wonders, but I forgive Wei as it was a good choice.
Frank, did you mistake ‘batshit’ for ‘bullshit’? 😉 Very much appreciated your approach, was very funny.
I think I’m all for a definition that is a combination of completely unnecessary, completely excessive technical execution, and ridiculous price. For that the one that it front of mind at the moment for me is the FP Journe Éleganté. Aside from the fact it is a quartz watch from a guy who makes tourbillons and other highly complex, beautifully finished watches, it has that super cool sleep/wake thing, full dual lume, and highly finished movement. And then the fact that you could have bought one for $13k a few months ago but now they are $42k on Chrono24.
Batshit indeed….
