This year marks the 20th anniversary of German watchmaking company MeisterSinger. And to create a bit of fanfare for this momentous occasion, MeisterSinger introduces a whole range of new watches to the party. We’ve seen the most affordable hour strike watch on the market, a new oversized moon phase indication and a robust new sports watch. But now, we unveil yet another novelty with a more classical style. Available in two sizes, MeisterSinger presents the Neo with red dégradé dials.
The Neo range is labelled as New Vintage by MeisterSinger, a collection marked by minimalism with a dash of retro. While all MeisterSinger watches focus on the concept of a single hand to tell time, the Neo range is the entry-level for the brand and has a very clear, vintage appeal. Two sizes are available with a choice between time and date or time and pointer date displays. However, things are about to be shaken up a little with the introduction of the more colourful Neo Bordeaux Dégradé, available in a 36mm or 40mm case.
The most obvious update to the Neo Bordeaux Dégradé is the dial. Presented with a rich Bordeaux (red wine) dial, transitioning to black towards the periphery, the Neo gets a big splash of colour. As always at MeisterSinger, time is indicated by a single, needle-shaped hand following a timing track printed in white and nestled in the black section of the dial. It is actually more than just a minute track as it provides a closer reading of the exact time. It is broken up into long, slender markers for each hour, with additional markers for every 15 and 30-minute intervals and lastly, the smallest markers for every 5 minutes. On the inside are the familiar double-digit hour markers, keeping the dial nice and even.
The stainless steel case is available in a 36mm or 40mm size, both measuring 9.7mm in height. The absence of a bezel offers a full view of the large dial. The crystal is a hardened acrylic, tying it in with the vintage appeal of the watch. The closed caseback is decorated with multiple MeisterSinger ‘fermata’ symbols, indicating a pause in musical notation, which the brand uses as a logo. The watch is water-resistant to 30 metres only.
A Sellita SW 200 ticks inside the case, a movement MeisterSinger regularly uses in its watches. This reliable automatic movement runs at a frequency of 28,800vph (4hz) and packs 38h of power reserve. It indicates time, normally by three hands (hours, minutes, seconds), but for obvious reasons, that has been reduced to one. Furthermore, it indicates the date, visible through a circular window in the bottom half of the dial.
The new MeisterSinger Neo Bordeaux Dégradé offer something extra to the collection while sticking to the brand’s philosophy of displaying time. A nice gesture is that it is similarly priced to the already available Neo 36 and Neo 40 models: EUR 1,090 for the 36mm case size and Eur 1,190 for the 40mm size. Regardless of size, the watch comes on a black shell Cordovan leather strap with a steel pin buckle. Both models are available from the middle of June.
