TAG Heuer is hugely popular for its automotive heritage and its racing chronographs. But the brand also has rich nautical and water-sport credentials, in particular with the Aquaracer dive watch collection. Launched in 2004/2005 as a direct descendant of the 2000 series, the Aquaracer line is now one of the pillars of the TAG Heuer portfolio. It comprises a variety of relatively accessible models. TAG Heuer has made a new addition to the collection with an emerald green Aquaracer Calibre 5.

As you would have guessed, the most distinctive feature of this new take on the classic Aquaracer is its eye-catching vivid green dial. If colours are a matter of personal taste, it certainly brings a fresh, modern touch to the model – something quite different from the usual black of deep-blue dial. The dial’s horizontal striped pattern is paired with luminescent markers and hands providing adequate contrast. The date indication at 3 o’clock is magnified by a “cyclops” lens.

The 43mm case is made of hardwearing stainless steel. It features a faceted unidirectional rotating bezel with six claws, numerals inked in black and a luminescent zero marker. The crown is screw-down as is the steel caseback that is decorated with the traditional Aquaracer “diving helmet”. The water-resistance is rated at 300m or 30 ATM.

The TAG Heuer Aquaracer green dial is powered by the automatic calibre 5 (based on the tried-and-tested Sellita SW 200-1). It displays the hours, the minutes, the seconds and the date. Running at 28,800 vibrations per hour, its power reserve is of 38 hours. A solid, reliable workhorse that ensures a reasonable price.

The watch is presented on a sporty 3-link steel bracelet with a diving extension. It is secured to the wrist by a double-security folding clasp. The price of this TAG Heuer Aquaracer Green Dial (ref. WAY2015.BA0927) is set at CHF 2,200, EUR 2,050 or USD 2,300. For more information, please visit www.tagheuer.com.

  1. I….I actually quite like this – there’s something weirdly alluring about that green dial with the horizontal stripes. Don’t hit me JAGOTW, I’ll do what needs to be done with a bit of the ol’ self-flagellation. brb

  2. Ha! I think this very nearly works but they used the wrong shade of green. Many TH designs are OK. I just don’t think they have the quality to back-up their “luxury watch” pretensions. They actually are what Rolex snobs consider Tudor to be.
As for what you get up to in the privacy of your own home……:-S

  3. Just shows what difference the photography can make. The first picture makes it look like a particularly nasty cheap Tag copy. The others just say ” not for me” a green dial can look really good, but not that shade.
