Last year, at Baselworld 2018, Carl F. Bucherer introduced a new, slightly modified version of its Manero Flyback. By changing the dial and the strap, the brand brought another (thick) layer of coolness to this chronograph, with retro-inspired, rally-oriented details. This year, using the same ingredients as a base, Carl F. Bucherer offers a warm, 18k pink gold version of its retro-styled Manero Flyback.

The Manero Flyback is arguably one of the nicest watches in Carl F. Bucherer’s collection. Admittedly, you won’t be able to enjoy the signature peripheral rotor here – note to the brand: please give us a peripheral rotor chronograph! – but at least, the movement has some arguments in terms of mechanics.

The Carl F. Bucherer Manero Flyback is a slightly vintage-inspired, yet modernly shaped and sized watch. Housed in a 43mm case, with brushed and polished accents – a very nicely executed case indeed – is the calibre CFB 1970, a proprietary (not in-house) integrated automatic chronograph based on the super-reliable 7750 architecture, later modified by La Joux-Perret to feature a column-wheel and a flyback function. This movement has 42 hours of power reserve, ticks at 4Hz and most of the crucial parts are visible through the caseback (blued column-wheel, levers, and gears of the chronograph).

Last year, the brand introduced an animation of this model, which was almost identical (95%) to the previous editions, but the 5% new part made a world of difference in terms of style. With its bi-compax display and its sector dial framed by a tachymeter scale, the Manero Flyback adds discreet but well-dosed vintage accents to an overall contemporary package. The sub-dials were done in silver, giving it a reversed-Panda look. The final sporty/rally touch is given by the new aged and perforated Kudu leather strap. By just changing the dial and the strap, Carl F. Bucherer drove its chronograph into another dimension, with cool retro flair and vintage rally inspiration.

This year, the brand gives this same retro-styled model a luxurious touch, with the addition of an 18k pink gold case. Its warmer tone contrasts nicely with the black and silver dial, on which the indexes and hands have been gilded. On this new gold edition, we find the same Kudu, aged and perforated leather strap, here executed in dark grey – for a more subtle style.

The pink gold Carl F. Bucherer Manero Flyback (ref. 00.10919.03.33.02) will be priced at CHF 16,900. More details at www.carl-f-bucherer.com.
