We’re more than halfway through October, which means it’s nearly November. For watch lovers in London that can only mean one thing. It’s time to start getting excited for the year’s horological highlight: SalonQP. We’ll be bringing you all the details about that show in a separate upcoming article. First though, we wanted to tell you about another, lesser-known but no less interesting event that is taking place a few weeks earlier, on the 7th of November: The Watchmaker’s Club.

You may have heard us talk about The Watchmaker’s Club before. That’s because the MONOCHROME team attended last year’s inaugural event aptly named “The Night Before”. It took place the night before the opening of SalonQP at a private member’s club in London called the Library. In total, 10 different brands attended, including the likes of Andreas Strehler, Czapek Genève and Moritz Grossmann. About 150 people attending the event got up close and personal with the people and the watches.

This year’s event promises to be even bigger and better. To reflect the growing popularity of the event, the location has been changed to M Restaurant on Threadneedle Street, just off London’s famous Royal Exchange. (Things were already pretty crowded at last year’s event, so the additional space will be more than welcome!) In total 15 brands are confirmed to attend this year (with the possibility of a few more joining at the last minute). They are:

  • Andreas Strehler
  • Carl Suchy & Sohne
  • Cyrus
  • Czapek
  • Dornblüth & Sohn
  • Fabergé
  • Fears
  • Garrick
  • GoS
  • Lonville
  • Moritz Grossmann
  • Pinion
  • Qlocktwo
  • Vault Swiss
  • Vertex

What really makes The Watchmaker’s Club Event unique, however, is the format. There are no booths per se, or even display cases for that matter. Instead, the watches and the people who have played a key role in creating them are available for access by all. You don’t need to make an appointment or win a golden ticket, you just grab a drink, maybe a canape or two and strike up a conversation. As co-founder David Brailsford put it:

“This isn’t Baselworld where only the upper echelons may ever dream of touching the watches. This is the Watchmaker’s Club, where getting up close and personal with a transaxial tourbillon is par for the course.”

He’s not kidding either. Not only can you see Andreas Strehler’s extraordinary Transaxial Tourbillon in the flesh, but you can ask the man himself how it works. Pinion’s new GMT will also be making the rounds, as will Garrick’s S1. New to the event this year, Cyrus will be bringing along its black and gold tourbillon. Pinion and Lonville will also be reportedly launching some new pieces but we’ll just have to wait until the event to find out the details.

Attendance at The Watchmaker’s Club is free, but places are limited. Register your interest on their website now and keep an eye out for that coveted invitation in your inbox: www.thewatchmakersclub.com.
