Tudor Pelagos “Qatar Watch Club” Edition 2020
Dedicated to a group of passionate collectors from the Middle East.
We see more and more “watch clubs” popping up around the globe. Don’t get us wrong, we actually encourage these initiatives as they are the best way to generate passion and increase horological knowledge among their members. One of these social hubs is named “Qatar Watch Club” and despite being quite young, it has already proven to be well established… Enough to tickle the interest of one of the most sought-after Swiss brands and enough to get this brand to create a special edition watch… Meet the Tudor Pelagos “Qatar Watch Club” Edition 2020.
The “Qatar Watch Club” (QWC) was established in July 2018, by eight close friends with a passion for horology. It is still young but already has quite a community of watch enthusiasts based in the small but wealthy country located on the northeastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula. The idea behind this club was “to create a social hub for everyone and anyone who shares the same passion as well as to educate the public who are interested in horology“.
In only two years of existence, this group of watch lovers has managed to create two special edition watches, with well-established watch brands. The first was a burgundy version of the Chopard L.U.C GMT One. The second watch is a Tudor and is based on one of the best dive watches on the market currently, the Pelagos.
This main differences of this QWC edition are on the dial. For the rest, we find all the great technical elements of a watch that deserves a bit more attention – the Black Bay certainly is a great timepiece, but the Pelagos has some pretty powerful arguments too. The base is the same as the updated model introduced back in 2015, with Tudor’s manufacture movement. The case is a robust titanium 42mm diameter diver’s style, fully brushed and with this typical greyish colour – giving this piece a cool modern, instrument-like touch. The Pelagos is equipped with a helium escape valve as well as a screw-down crown, guaranteeing a solid 500m water-resistance.
On the contrary of the BB, which plays on the vintage trend, the Pelagos is a contemporary piece. This shows on the case, but also on the dial and bezel, both executed here in a bright blue colour, without fauxtina. The 60-minute bezel is made of blue ceramic, with luminous scale. Some references to older Tudor watches are still present though, with the squared hour indexes and the snowflake hand. Powering the Tudor Pelagos is an automatic manufacture movement, produced by Kenissi, with 70h power reserve, 4Hz frequency, anti-magnetic properties and a COSC certification.
Now, for their special edition Pelagos, the “Qatar Watch Club” has decided to add some clear references to their country. The dial has indeed been cleaned, with the 5 lines of text at 6 o’clock replaced by a special decoration. Printed on the dial is the word Qatar in Arabic – قطر – in calligraphy, which has been penned by one of the club’s members. The logo of the QWC is also stamped on the caseback.
The Tudor Pelagos “Qatar Watch Club” Edition 2020 is a limited edition of 50 pieces, only available for members of the Club. It is delivered with a 3-link titanium bracelet and a blue rubber strap. It is priced at QAR 16,400 (Approx. EUR 4,050). More details on the Club’s Instagram account @qwclub and tudorwatch.com.

I have the “rest of the world” version of this particular watch. It would be much nicer without anything printed on the bottom half of the dial, a la Zenith Defy Classic.
I wish Tudor would introduce a version with only the depth rating at 6 o’clock rather than the 6 lines of inappropriate text. A cleaner dial would be appreciated by many collectors. Look how clean the dial is on the 79190 Submariner.
