Tutima Grand Flieger Airport, Now With Coloured Ceramic Bezel
The brand's modern flieger get high-tech materials and cool colours.
Founded in 1927 by Dr Ernst Kurtz, Tutima has a long tradition of manufacturing pilot watches. The Grand Flieger Airport is a collection inspired by one of the brand’s 1940s chronographs. The line’s distinctive hallmark – a bidirectional rotatable bezel with a 60-minute scale and a red marking point – is now made of ultra-hard scratch-resistant ceramic for the first time and offered in two new coloured versions.
This technical upgrade for the collection is introduced with an automatic day-date model and a chronograph, also with day-date indication. Both models are fitted with gradient dials in classic blue or military green, matching the ceramic bezel and strap. The 43mm stainless steel case with a screw-down crown is water-resistant to 200m. The sapphire crystals protecting the dial and the movement at the back of the watch are treated with anti-reflective coating.
In the typical style of this collection, the dials of these Grand Flieger Airport models are focused on clear contrast and optimal legibility. The hands, the large rectangular hour markers and the pearl on the rotating bezel are luminescent. The red numerals and triangular index of the chronograph 12-hour counter bring an original touch.
Both models are powered by precise and trustworthy self-winding movements. The three-hander houses the calibre 330 (based on the ETA 2836) with 38 hours of power reserve when fully wound. The movement of the chronograph, the Tutima calibre 310, is based on the ETA Valjoux 7750 with its characteristic dial layout and with day-date indication. It boasts 44 hours of power reserve.
The watches are worn on robust green or grey Cordura fabric straps fitted with a stainless steel folding buckle. There is also a three-link steel bracelet option. The three-hand version of the Tutima Grand Flieger Airport retails for EUR 1,900 on strap and EUR 2,200 on steel bracelet. The chronograph retails for EUR 3,300.
