Introducing – Ulysse Nardin Diver Chronograph Hammerhead Shark (live photos)
As we recently showed to you, the Marine collection by Ulysse Nardin celebrates this year its 20th anniversary. In an interview we filmed during Baselworld 2016, the CEO of the brand, Patrik P. Hoffmann, was showing his pride with several new watches. However, these were not the only novelties of the brand this year, and the other successful model of UN, the Diver, is about to be introduced in a new version, a dive watch in limited edition with quite a bold design and, for the first time, the manufacture’s chronograph movement. Here is the Ulysse Nardin Diver Chronograph Hammerhead Shark.
The Ulysse Nardin Diver is the brand’s interpretation of a diving instrument. Based on the Marine watch – the best seller and most emblematic watch of the brand – this timepiece adds three dive watch essential attributes: a rotating bezel with 60-minute diving scale, a 300m water resistance and a strong legibility, via larger hands and markers. Overall, the Diver is a watch that combines functionality with a strong design, which will have to be assumed. Bright colours, inserts in the rubber strap, marine-oriented patterns on the dials… The Ulysse Nardin Diver is bold, without compromise and highly masculine.
This year, a new limited edition, the Ulysse Nardin Diver Chronograph Hammerhead Shark, also marks a first for the collection, with the introduction of the self-winding manufacture chronograph calibre UN-150 with silicon escapement and balance spring. This movement is automatic, integrated and entirely developed and produced in-house by Ulysse Nardin. It features a column wheel, beats at 28,800vph, boasts 48h of power reserve and features silicon parts – which, as a reminder, UN was the very first to use in a production watch, the Freak. This movement is modern, pleasantly finished and technically advanced – and, for the pleasure of connoisseurs, visible through the sapphire caseback.
In the Ulysse Nardin Diver Chronograph Hammerhead Shark, this movement is housed in a solid and rugged oversized case, measuring 44mm and presented as a limited edition in both stainless steel (300 pieces) and 18k pink gold (99 pieces). With its unidirectional rotating bezel, its screw-down crown and pushers as well as the solid construction of the case, this new limited edition is a perfect mix between a solid dive watch (water resistant at 300m) and a chronograph – an interesting offer for ocean travel, diving and regatta (as the addition of the chronograph and the intelligently applied red accents will be helpful in such conditions).
Both editions of the Ulysse Nardin Diver Chronograph Hammerhead Shark, whether in steel or gold, play with a mix of deep blue with red accents. The dial, specifically on these limited versions, feature a hammerhead shark motif – logo that can be found on the strap inserts and into the 30-minute sub-dial. The layout of the dial is classical – a 3-6-9 chronograph with date at 6 – but highly legible. The hands are bold, the minute recorder of the chronograph is emphasized and the markers are luminous. Several touches of red help to quickly understand the functions and the indications.
This Ulysse Nardin Diver Chronograph Hammerhead Shark, the new flagship of the Diver collection, will be available in a limited production of 300 pieces in steel and 99 pieces in 18k Pink gold. Other non-limited editions, without the shark pattern and with a black dial, are also available. More details on the Diver page, on ulysse-nardin.com.
