A unique piece inspired by Autonomyo, a walking exoskeleton for people with degenerative muscular diseases.
For the 2019 edition of Only Watch, the biennial fundraiser for research on Duchenne muscular dystrophy, Ulysse Nardin has taken inspiration from the developments of the EPFL (École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne) research group REHAssist. Meet the Ulysse Nardin Exo-Skeleton X for Only Watch 2019 with its innovative case construction.
According to Dr Mohamed Bouri, head of the research group REHAssist, “Autonomyo is an exceptional device which has been designed to be used without crutches. Our goal is to be able to support walking and managing balance for sufferers of muscular dystrophy, for example”.
SKELETON DIAL – SKELETON MOVEMENT – EXOSKELETON CASE
As you had guessed, the Ulysse Nardin Exo-Skeleton X is a skeleton watch. But more than that, its 42 mm PVD-titanium case is fitted with an exoskeleton: four flexible blades are fixed to the case to improve wearing comfort, allowing some movement between the lug bar and the case.
The watch is powered by the hand-wound UN-371 calibre, just like the Skeleton X presented at SIHH 2019. With highly contemporary aesthetics, this openwork movement is regulated by the innovative regulator presented in the Freak Vision: a superlight silicon balance wheel with nickel fly-weights and stabilizing micro-blades. The openwork architecture lets you gauge how much of the 96-hour power reserve is left.
The Ulysse Nardin is presented on a grey textile strap secured with a titanium pin buckle.
