Introducing the Vacheron Constantin Traditionnelle Day-Date and Power Reserve Collection Excellence Platine
Shortly before the Watches & Wonders fair in Hong Kong, Vacheron Constantin adds a new version of the beautiful calibre 2475 to the Collection Excellence Platine. Originally introduced into the collection in the legendary Jubilee 1755, in 2005, and since 2008 available in the Quai de l’Ile collection, it now returns in a lovely classically styled execution: the Vacheron Constantin Traditionnelle Day-Date and Power Reserve Collection Excellence Platine.
Since its creation in 2006 Vacheron Constantin’s Collection Excellence Platine pays homage to the purity of the material platinum. Platinum is 95% pure, compare that to 18-carat gold that is just 75% pure gold. The additional 25% determines the colour of gold (pink, rose, red, yellow or white.) Platinum usually is mixed with 5% palladium or copper. Watches in the Collection Excellence Platine are always individually numbered and never exceeding 150 pieces per model. This Traditionnelle Day-Date and Power reserve features a clean and uncluttered 950 platinum dial with a finely grained sandblasted finish, and a discrete “Pt 950” inscription between 4 and 5 o’clock.
After the being available in the Jubilee 1755 and now-a-days in the Quai de l’Ile collection, calibre 2475 is now available in a more classical case. The 39,5mm x 10.65mm platinum case features a slender bezel and a knurled motif around the screw-down back fitted with a sapphire crystal. The finely grained sandblasted platinum dial, with rail road track minute indices, features faceted hour-markers (double at 12 o’clock) and dauphine hour and minute hands. The power reserve (at 6 o’clock), date (at 3 o’clock) and day of the week (at 9 o’clock) are indicated with heat-blued steel hands; the proverbially cherry on the cake.
Calibre 2475 SC is of entirely developed and produced by Vacheron Constantin. The mechanical self-winding movement measures 26.2 mm in diameter, is 5.7 mm thick and vibrates at a frequency of 28,800 vph. When fully wound it offers 40 hours of power reserve. Like all VC timepieces it is finished to the classic codes of Fine Watchmaking. Both the watch and movement bear the Hallmark of Geneva (that we explained here), which the strictest seal of quality in the watchmaking industry.
Platinum is even used in the strap’s stitching! The dark blue Mississippi alligator leather strap is hand-sewn with a thread of silk and 950 platinum. It comes on a 950 platinum folding clasp. The Traditionnelle Day-Date and Power Reserve Collection Excellence Platine is limited to 100 pieces.
