Introducing The Delma Cayman Field Watch

For more than 50 years, Delma has specialized in dive watches and many go beyond the norm. The Blue Shark III with a 4,000-metre depth rating and Oceanmaster Antarctica designed for the extremes of the southernmost continent are perfect examples. The Cayman series launched in 2019 with a retro 1970s design and depth rating of 500 metres, while the clever Cayman Worldtimer traveller’s watch followed a year later. The latest Delma Cayman Field is focused more on terrestrial adventures with features suitable for any outdoorsman, but it’ll still thrive under the sea.

The Cayman Field maintains the look of its predecessors while adding requisite field watch aesthetics. Durability was never an issue before and we have the same 42mm stainless steel case with a height of 13.3mm (an optional quartz variant brings it down to 11mm). Although not specifically targeted to water enthusiasts, it certainly has everything a trained diver would need with a 500-metre depth rating and Super-LumiNova C3 mark on a unidirectional rotating bezel. This black anodized aluminium bezel doesn’t feature a highlighted 15-minute scale but does have a detailed 60-minute track in contrasting white that will certainly get the job done. A domed sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating protects the dial, while an exhibition case back displays the Swiss automatic – a cool feature given the strong depth rating. 

The dial is where you’ll find most changes as it’s designed for maximum legibility in all conditions. Only a matte black option is available this time with large Super-LumiNova C3 indices. Arabic numerals mark 12, 6 and 9 o’clock and a black date window sits at 3 o’clock. Within the main indices is a red 24-hour scale for military time that’s both useful and adds to the field watch vibe. The steel hour and minute hands have long Super-LumiNova inserts, while the seconds hand has a triangular tip with lume. Although this is the only dial option, there are three straps that change the character a bit. There’s a khaki canvas and black rubber option with steel pin buckles, or a classy Milanese steel bracelet with a folding clasp. All are suitable for any adventure, above or below water. 

Powering the Cayman Field is a Sellita SW200 automatic (an optional ETA F06.111 quartz is available) with 26 jewels, 28,800vph (4Hz) and a 38-hour power reserve. This is an alternative to the ETA 2824 workhorse without constraints from the Swatch Group. Functions include central hours, minutes, seconds and date at 3 o’clock. It’s undecorated, but Delma has customized the rotor and it’s an interesting movement to view. 

The Delma Cayman Field Watch is now available for orders from the brand’s online shop and retails for EUR 1,040 or USD 1,100 with the canvas or rubber strap, and moves up a bit to EUR 1,200 or USD 1,300 with the Milanese bracelet.
