Watching Celeb Watches: Pep Guardiola
After a long absence Watching Celeb watches is back! We’ve already been looking at actors, sports men, musicians or our all-time favourites, the Top Gear Team. This week we are featuring a football manager and his watches. We’re talking about the former football player Pep Guardiola. He currently manages German powerhouse Bayern Munich, and used to manage the club he used to play for in Spain, FC Barcelona.
The first watch featured is an IWC Big Pilot. With a size of 46mm, a well-known 7-day movement featuring the Pellaton winding system and a very legible dial, it makes it easy for the wearer to glance at the time. Mr Guardiola is known to be one of the most stylish managers in world football and the IWC Big Pilot doesn’t look bad with a suit.
The next piece we’ve spotted on his wrist is a Chopard. This is the first time a Chopard has been featured on Watching Celeb Watches. The particular model in question is the Chopard 1000 Miglia GT XL Speed Black FC Barcelona Chronograph with its distinctive rubber strap with tyre pattern. This watch is named after the famous Mille Miglia race and this particular watch was made in honour of FC Barcelona winning the 2008-09 Spanish Football season. Since it is a chronograph, it would make it much easier for a manager to know how much time has elapsed in a match and could potentially lead to an argument with the 4th official over the allocation of injury time.
The final watch featured is (again) a Rolex. As one of the most known luxury brand, it is no surprise to feature some of them quite often in this column. Pep Guardiola wears the massive DeepSea Dweller with a 44mm case and depth rating of 12,800ft or 3,900 meters. An excellent piece of engineering from Rolex that M. Guardiola would certainly never use for the purpose of saturation diving. At least, it could be drenched in sports drinks or Bavarian lager from the Bayern Munich players dumping it on the manager after winning the Bundesliga or the Champions League.
Next week an IWC special on two more football managers!
