The year 1815 had seen the birth of an important man, a man responsible for the introduction of fine watchmaking in Glashütte, Germany. At the age of 30, Ferdinand Adolph Lange founded the manufacture Lange near Dresden, in the eastern state of Saxony. He highly contributed to the creation of an whole industry that is now a real pride for Germany. In order to celebrate the 200th anniversary of its birth, A. Lange and Sohne is now introducing a limited edition. Here is the the A. Lange and Sohne 1815 “200th Anniversary F. A. Lange” Limited Edition, in platinum with back dial.

Even if we all know about the beauty and technicality of the watches created in the city of Glashütte, especially those from A. Lange and Sohne, we have to understand the importance of Ferdinand Adolph Lange for this region. Not only F.A. Lange was a smart politician, an inspired economist and an innovative watchmaker but he was mainly a pioneer of industrialization. In order to break poverty and to bring some work to a region in difficulty, he imagined a plan to introduce fine watchmaking to Germany in order to answer to the demand for precision watches. His project succeeded and 170 years later, this tradition is still alive. A look at the video will give you some more insights about this man and its achievements.

To pay a tribute to the founder of the brand, A. Lange and Sohne comes with a new 1815 “200th Anniversary F. A. Lange” in a limited edition of 200 watches. The A. Lange and Sohne 1815 may be one of the simplest watch of the actual collection, it’s the one that possibly is the most faithful to F.A. Lange’s vision. A watch precise, refined, apparently simple but an unbeatable daily companion for its wearer. This 3-hand watch was previously only available in 3 editions: a silver dial with a white gold or a pink gold case and with blued hands or a rhodium dial with a platinum case and silver hands. This new limited edition of the A. Lange and Sohne 1815 comes with something that collectors love: the glossy black dial.

Together with the platinum case, the A. Lange and Sohne 1815 “200th Anniversary F. A. Lange” brings a very monochromatic look, as the hands are also in a silvery tone – a proper black and white scheme. The dial shows a simple rail-track for the minutes and Arabic number for the hours. At 6 stands the subsidiary small-second. And that’s all. No date windows, no complications, no useless features. Just the pure A. Lange and Sohne tradition. The result is an elegant, discreet and slim (8.8mm thick) dress watch with a pitch black dial.

This ode to tradition can also be found in the movement. The Calibre L051.1 of the A. Lange and Sohne 1815 shows the classical 3/4 plate made of untreated German silver. The movement is fully decorated by hand, with the typical Glashütte stripes, the screwed gold chatons with thermally blued screws, the engraved cock bridge and some polished beveled angles. It comes with two barrels for 55 hours of power reserve and a stop seconds mechanism (for a fine adjustment of the watch). The classic screw balance oscillates at 21,600 semi-oscillations per hour.
