On the last day of SIHH 2018, Brice, Xavier and I sat down to list the best watches of this year’s Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie. It’s been a good week, tiring though with 4-hour nights, however, the overall feel of this year’s SIHH was more positive than last years. Has the industry recovered from the crisis? If I have to judge based on the feeling of the fair, I’d say yes, but let’s await the numbers that will be published in half a year from now. First… we listed the best watches of SIHH 2018 for you in the video above.

Our ‘Best of Show’ includes two drop-dead gorgeous chronographs, a simply stunning and easy to operate annual calendar, two iconic sports watches, a superb value-for-money entry level all-rounder, a striking ultra-flat dress watch, a historically interesting watch that doesn’t indicate time by hands, and one that uses electronics. No worries, we still do not cover quartz watches, as I’m referring to a watch that uses electronics for adjusting and setting the time and nothing else!

Besides our ‘Best of Show’ listing, we added two special mentions, being the spectacular Piaget Altiplano Ultimate Concept that sets a new world record for a mechanical watch at only 2 millimeters. The second is a homage to non-other than Walter Lange, the man who revived the brand from his grandfather and who has inspired so many people in the watch industry. A unique steel version of the 1815 ‘Homage to Walter Lange’ that comes with a stoppable dead-beat second; his favourite complication.
