Watch dials rarely venture to red. Less formal than dark colours, red grabs your attention. But red can be very attractive and elegant, as you’ll see. Especially if you are confident in your ability to carry off colours or like to stand out from the crowd. If this is the case, we have rounded up five great red dial watches presented recently.

Oris Big Crown Pointer date 40mm oxblood Red dial
Red with brownish hues, the oxblood dial of this Pointer Date works extremely well with the context of this vintage-inspired Oris model. Its stylized typography is paired with cathedral hands treated with beige Super-LumiNova. The automatic calibre 754 inside is based on a Sellita SW200-1 modified internally for the date indication. It comes with an equally unique but stylish distressed leather strap.

TAG Heuer Monaco 1979-1989 limited edition
As the brand celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Monaco, TAG Heuer releases several limited editions to celebrate all the decades between 1969 and 2019. Among these, the 1979-1989 edition is equipped with a cool bright red racing-themed red dial. To give the final racing touch to the model, TAG Heuer went for a perforated leather strap in black with a red leather lining.

Omega De Ville Trésor 125th anniversary Co-axial Master Chronometer
Released to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the Omega name, this limited edition De Ville comes with a radiant red enamel dial that follows the brand’s signature colour. It is paired with a matching colour alligator strap with tone-on-tone stitching. The model inaugurates the calibre 8929, the first manual-winding Master Chronometer movement. This twin-barrel movement features the latest Omega innovations, meaning anti-magnetic parts (up to 15,000 gausses), the signature co-axial escapement, advanced precision and a 5-year warranty. On the caseback is an 18k yellow gold anniversary medallion filled with red enamel and surrounded by damaskeening.

Grand Seiko Elegance collection
At Baselworld 2019, Grand Seiko unveiled a new collection of four watches named the ‘Grand Seiko Elegance’. These are fitted with superbly crafted Urushi (Japanese lacquer) domed dials. The reference SGBK002 uses a red/brown “amber” dial named suki-urushi. It is fitted with a new movement, the hand-wound calibre 9S63 displaying the hours, minutes, small seconds and power reserve.

JLC Reverso Tribute Burgundy dial not included really surprises me.

Love the GS. It has something very few watches by Grand Seiko have. A sense of old European money. I thought the Omega looked classy until I scrolled down!
The Oris also really hits the spot.
Cartier have done some achingly-beautiful burgundy watches but having just checked the website, they don’t seem to be in production at the moment.
Red is one of those colours which, when done right, seem to be “righter” than the rest. But they are difficult. Damn! I must resist my GAS!
Wish the tip of the date hand on the Oris were gold, silver, green, blue — anything but that red with that dial.
The Czapek’s my fave of those. I think Vaucher helped make the movement, which is a sign of good quality. Relatively good value for what you get.
I’ll add to Chia-Ming’s call for the burgundy Reverso – I think it’s proving to be quite popular.

I wholeheartedly agree with Brian. That tip in green would be an inexpensive but wonderful little touch.

As in, don’t sell any of the above, in time (ouch – weak pun) fashion goes full circle.
No fan of TAG – but this is a sweet one.
