Girard-Perregaux exhibition and workshops in Paris
From August 29 to September 5, the Young Watchmaker’s Tour from Girard-Perregaux stops in Paris. After we told you about the first stop of the tour, in New York City, the tour continued to Beijing and now comes to Paris.
And best news about it, is that you are invited to join them for the workshops and to visit the Girard-Perregaux Museum Exhibition! Many great timepieces from the manufacture are present and the curator of the GP Museum will do guided tours. In short: see and admire many gorgeous and impressive timepieces and put yourself in the shoes of a watchmaker for a two hour workshop.
The third stop of the Young Watchmakers Tour will take place in the salerooms of the auction house Christie’s, at 9 Avenue Matignon, Paris. Located in the heart of the prestigious district of antique-dealers, grand hotels and art galleries, this is the ideal location for hosting this magnificent watchmaking event.
The Girard-Perregaux ‘The Art of Making Time’ exhibition was conceived as an educational tour, to share the values and spirit of Girard-Perregaux watchmaking since 1791. A selection of exceptional pieces from the Manufacture’s own museum together with some of its more contemporary timepieces will be brought together to form what will undoubtedly be the largest collection of Girard-Perregaux watches ever seen in France.
You will get to see historical pieces such as the “Esmeralda” pocket-watch (photo above), winner of the Gold Medal at the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1889, the most outstanding example of the famous Tourbillon with Three Gold Bridges, or more contemporary pieces such as the Vintage 1945 Tourbillon with Three Gold Bridges, together with rare documents and unique watchmaking tools. Guided visits will be conducted by Willy Schweizer, the curator of the Girard-Perregaux Museum and the ideal host if you’re keen to learn more about the history of the Manufacture.
There’s also be the possibility to register for one of two different workshops. For the duration of the Young Watchmakers Tour, from August 29 to September 5, there will be five workshops per day, each lasting two hours. You can choose between the initiation workshops during which you will be initiated into the art of disassembling and reassembling a Girard-Perregaux mechanical watch movement. Or you can discover the basic techniques of Haute Horlogerie, by learning how to finish a tourbillon bridge.
These workshops are open to all, but are limited to 7 persons per session. For further information and to register [email protected]
