Czapek Quai des Bergues Sursum Corda

While Czapek & Cie. usually relies on minimalist designs, today it presents a highly decorated, commemorative piece with impressive métiers d’art displayed on its dial. The new Quai des Bergues “Sursum Corda” is a unique piece created to celebrate the 175th anniversary of the Czapek name (the company Czapek & Cie. was created in 1845) and demonstrates the necessity of a spirit of resilience in these challenging times.

This 42.5mm 18k white gold unique piece is based on the company’s inaugural collection, the Czapek Quai des Bergues. This “Sursum Corda” edition stands out with its hand-crafted dial, one of the most elaborate created by the brand so far. A world map in dark blue cloisonné enamel on a white gold plate is enclosed within a brushed white gold ring and an outer hour ring with hand-engraved waves.

The ring framing the map bears the Latin inscription “Sursum Corda” – along with its translation in English Lift up your Hearts as well as in the three main Swiss languages: French, Italian and German. The creation of the dial involved different expert craftsmen. In particular, the cloisonné enamel was produced by Donzé Cadrans, while the outer ring was hand-engraved by Michèle Rothen. Other dial features – such as the small seconds sub-dial, inscriptions ring and hour ring, were manufactured by Metalem.

The watch is powered by the hand-wound Calibre SXH1, a proprietary movement developed and manufactured with Chronode in Le Locle. Operating at 3Hz, it can store up to 7 days or 168 hours of power reserve on two barrels. This version comes without its usual power reserve indication. Visible through the exhibition caseback, it features bridges that are sandblasted, chamfered by hand and held by blued screws while its two ratchets are openworked.
