Redesigned in 2017, the Maurice Lacroix Pontos Day-Date line is getting three new variants to celebrate the Pontos collection’s 20th anniversary. The design itself is the same, but a new bronze case and dial colours significantly change the overall vibe. Day-date complications are among the most useful for a watch and the execution here is excellent. New colour schemes can give a watch a very different personality and these models are more than just a new coat of paint.

The case is a contemporary 41mm in diameter and 11mm in height, but there’s a choice of either polished and satin stainless steel or bronze. An interesting feature involves a minor extension to the right side that partially shrouds the crown like a guard, and although more aesthetic than functional, the asymmetry breaks away from the norm. The crown itself is signed and features the brand’s signature spiral knurling. The lugs have a double-step design with a satin finish on the top and polished outer (second) level. A polished, slightly angled bezel surrounds the domed sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating. Water-resistance in 100 metres.

Two dial colours are available, a sunray silver or deep sunray green, with the latter coupled with the bronze case. The applied faceted indices are rhodium plated on the green dial and rose gold PVD on the silver. All hands are gold on both models with the hour and minute having Super-LumiNova inserts. A sunken minute track circles inside of the indices, while the day window arcs below 12 o’clock with the date at 6 o’clock.

The heart of the line is ML143 automatic (supplied by Sellita) with 26 jewels, 28,800vph (4Hz) and a 38-hour power reserve. Functions include central hours, minutes, seconds, day of the week at 12 o’clock and date at 6 o’clock. The movement is rhodium plated with circular graining and Côtes de Genève.

Strap options include brown or black calfskin with a rose gold-plated M logo and butterfly clasp (brown for the bronze model) or three-link steel bracelet with a butterfly clasp for the steel model. The Maurice Lacroix Pontos Day-Date models are not limited editions. It will be priced at EUR 1,490 on leather strap and EUR 1,590 on steel bracelet.
