Ulysse Nardin is a productive and innovative manufacture, able to create incredible watches such as the newly introduced Ulysse Nardin FreakLab or the Anchor Escapement. Both are however expensive watches totally focused on R&D. On the other side of the range, there are watches that might show a (visually) simpler technical content but that are however also full of interest. One of them is the Ulysse Nardin Dual Time Manufacture that was introduced last year at Baselworld and that comes with an in-house movement. This year, the collection is updated with two fresh editions.

Ulysse Nardin Dual Time Manufacture 2015 - 4

The Ulysse Nardin Dual Time Manufacture was previously available in 4 editions – stainless steel case with silver dial, stainless steel case with black dial (both also available on a metallic bracelet), 18k rose gold case with a silver dial and 18k rose gold case with a black dial. For 2015, we have 2 new editions. The first one is an ultra-classic and elegant 18k rose gold case with a warm ivory dial, some straight gold applied indices and a specific Roman Numeral at 12. It is strapped on a brown alligator skin.

The second edition is more original, even if totally in line with some other watches from their collection – like the Marine Chronometer Manufacture – and filled with typical UN nautical clues – a geometric rope motif for the dial or the blue tone mixed with 18k rose gold. It comes with triangular applied gold indices and differently shaped hands. It features a blue alligator strap.

The Ulysse Nardin Dual Time Manufacture comes with the new in-house movement, that utilizes silicon for both the escapement (anchor, escape wheel and roller) and hairspring. Caliber UN-334 beats at a steady pace of 4 Hz (28,800 vph) and has a power reserve of 48 hours. The movement has been developed and manufactured entirely in-house. When UN introduced this watch in 2014, our editor-in-chief was very enthusiastic about this movement and its functions: “It is a perfect business man traveler’s watch. The possibility to change the second time zone (local time) both forward and backward is maybe nothing out of the ordinary, however the ingenuity that the date also changes in sync with the second time zone, both forward and backward, is simply brilliant. The Dual Time Manufacture is endowed with the Big Date double window display.

The home time is easily legible through the aperture at 9, with a 24-hour disc. While the home time indicator advances steadily over 24 hours in the aperture at 9 o’clock, the hour hand can easily be aligned with local time. To adjust the hour hand either forward or backward, simply press the (+) or (-) pushers positioned at 10 o’clock and 8 o’clock. This can be done without removing the watch from your wrist or interrupting the watch from timekeeping.
