The Nomos Tangente neomatik 41 Update Midnight Blue
A new midnight blue dial for the Tangente Update and luminescent neon green markers on the patented date ring.
Nomos is one of the 38 brands participating in the 2021 digital edition of Watches & Wonders. So far, we’ve covered the Metro neomatik 41 Update, updated with Nomos’ original date display on the periphery of the dial. Introduced in 2018, the patented in-house neomatik date calibre (DUW 6101) was used in the Autobahn collection with the date at 6 o’clock, in the Orion at 3 o’clock, in the Ludwig at 4 o’clock and in the Tangente Update. The layout of the date function on the Tangente was the most innovative, with 31 apertures on the periphery of the dial and red dots to frame the correct day. Tangente is the epitome of Nomos’ design philosophy: round, refined, minimalist with a slim profile, angular lugs and typography reminiscent of the Bauhaus era. Available in many case sizes, the Tangente neomatik Update with the peripheral calendar comes in a 41mm steel case with a height of just 7.8mm. Interpreted with a classic white silver-plated dial in 2018 and a brown dial enhanced with ruthenium, the Tangente neomatik 41 Update welcomes a new colour scheme in 2021.
Midnight Blue and Acid Green
The attractive colour combination of midnight blue with acid green touches gives the watch a sportier look. The midnight blue dial reveals a slightly grainy matte surface with silver-coloured indices and Arabic numerals at 2, 8, 10 and 12 o’clock; the small seconds counter means that there is no index at 6 o’clock. The brand name NOMOS and GLASHÜTTE are also silver, while the neomatik inscription is golden. All three hands are rhodium-plated.
The fun begins with the patented date ring located on the periphery of the dial with silver Arabic numerals from 1-31 and 31 cut-out apertures. Unlike the former models, which rely on the colour red to indicate the date, the latest Tangente Update uses neon green. Not only is it a bright acid green colour, but it is also treated with green Super-LumiNova to glow in the dark. A sapphire crystal glass protects the dial with an anti-reflective coating on the inner side.
In-house calibre DUW 6101
Nomos’ innovative in-house calibre DUW 6101 with a quick-set date function is also known as the neomatik calibre with date. With a 35.2mm diameter and a very slim height of 3.6mm, the calibre is large and slender and works very well inside classic dress watches. Another advantage is that the date can be set both forwards and backwards by turning the crown. A highly efficient automatic movement, the rotor winds in both directions and is skeletonised to withstand knocks. The barrel can store up to 42 hours of power reserve. The Nomos swing system escapement was designed in-house and ensures the high precision of the movement. The neomatik date is also the first Nomos calibre with three crown positions (home position to wind the movement by hand, second position to adjust date forwards or backwards, third position to set the time).
