While the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Summer Games are barely behind us (thanks to a small delay in the calendar…), the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games are knocking at the door and will begin on February the 4th next year. As expected, and now with no fewer than 30 participations, Omega will once again be the official timekeeper of the event, which will return to the city of Beijing, after the 2008 Summer Games. In tribute to its role, Omega is releasing a new special edition model, the Seamaster Aqua Terra Beijing 2022, with an appropriate ice-inspired dial.

This new Aqua Terra 150m for Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 is based on the classic, all-rounder model from the brand’s collection, the well-executed and mechanically-packed Aqua Terra 150m. Here presented in stainless steel, the case chosen for this edition is the largest one, meaning 41mm in diameter, with an approximate height of 13.5mm. It retains all the attributes of the classic edition, meaning a sloped polished bezel framing a domed sapphire crystal, a case with the signature twisted lugs, a combination of brushed and polished surfaces, the recently-updated conical screw-in crown and a comfortable water-resistance of 150 metres.

New to this edition is the dial… And it certainly pays tribute to the Olympic Winter Games with its icy look. Made of white ceramic, the dial of the Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra Beijing 2022 is presented with a laser-engraved frost-finish pattern. Contrasting with this white background are equally cold-looking applied markers and hands, executed in dark blue, and filled with Super-LumiNova. The colour red is used for the Seamaster name and the four quarter numbers on the minute track. Colours apart, all elements are identical to watches from the permanent collection.

Turning the watch over and you’ll see a solid steel caseback, replacing the traditional sapphire caseback. It is engraved with the Beijing 2022 logo and is screwed. Under this decorative element is the Omega Calibre 8900, an in-house automatic movement with Master Chronometer certification, Co-Axial escapement, and anti-magnetic resistance up to 15,000 gauss. This movement runs at 25,200 vibrations/hour and, thanks to a double-barrel architecture, stores up to 60 hours of power reserve when fully wound. It also features a time-zone function, where the user can change the hour hand by one-hour increments.

The Aqua Terra Beijing 2022 is worn on a 3-link, brushed and polished stainless steel bracelet. It is delivered in a distinctive Olympic Games presentation box.
