The news-storm for the Only Watch 2015 auction just keeps on coming and is far from over, as now Maurice Lacroix comes to join the party. As you all very well know by now, all proceeds will go to the Monaco Association Against Muscular Dystrophy in order to fight the dreadful Duchene disease. Maurice Lacroix offers a unique (very) blue version of the Masterpiece Gravity which we reviewed extensively before. The blue tone is not the only thing that sets it apart from the normal Gravity-collection though.

Blue is quite a fashionable color in watchmaking for the past couple of years now. We’ve seen more and more offerings with touches of blue in one way or another. In just about all of these watches, the blued parts are limited to the dials, subdials, straps, and hands, and almost never extends to the exterior. Maurice Lacroix now offers a unique, very blue timepiece featuring a patented material for the case called POWERLITE®. This patented alloy is a combination of titanium, aluminum, magnesium, zirconium and ceramic which results in a very light yet durable material coupled with a remarkable finish.

The dial side of the movement is also different from the standard offerings in the Gravity collection. The off-center dial for the hours and minutes is lacquered in blue, with rhodium plated markers and hands for a good legibility. The subdial for the seconds, located between 5 and 6 o’clock, is also blued and adorned with a red hand. The main bridge of the movement, on which the dial is mounted, is decorated with a unique “Vague du Jura” motif. The in-house developed silicium escapement is still clearly visible underneath the boxed sapphire crystal.

The in-house Caliber ML230 movement is developed by Maurice Lacroix, their 13th manufacture in the last 10 years of the brand’s existence. It uses a full silicium escapement, built up on the front of the movement which is quite a spectacle to behold when wearing it. For the full specs of the watch and movement we recommend you read the extensive review again.

The standard versions of the Maurice Lacroix Masterpiece Gravity are limited to 250 pieces each, but this one is of course a unique piece. The caseback is engraved with “ONLY WATCH 2015 – PIECE UNIQUE 1/1” to give proof of this if anyone is ever doubtful when your sport this on your wrist.
