Maurice Lacroix unveils new animations for their classical Pontos Chronograph and Pontos Day Date. The collection is one of the most emblematic of the brand and was revamped in 2016. Both models are now offered with a new range of elegant calf leather straps with off-white stitching – the perfect opportunity to get a close look at these two models.

The round Maurice Lacroix Pontos case is rather classic at first, but different enough to have its own personality. It is finely finished with brushed and polished surfaces, which blend nicely on the stainless steel case. The lugs are contoured on their outer edge. They have an interesting curved shaped ensuring great wearing comfort while enhancing the case profile. The gently inclined bezel frames a slightly dome sapphire crystal. The crown engraved with the Maurice Lacroix logo is screwed down ensuring water-resistance down to 100m. It is protected by a discreet crown-guard for the day-date or dynamic pushers for the chronograph.

The dials feature applied facetted indexes and a domed Maurice Lacroix ‘M’ logo. The chronograph has a blue dial with contrasting silvered counters. On its periphery, on the inner flange, is a second scale. The day-date version, more classical and dressier, has a light brown dial with the day of the week indicated at 12 o’clock and the date at 6 o’clock. Overall, a pleasant display.

The diamond cut hands come with luminescent material on their tip for hour and minutes. The chronograph hands (30-minute counter at 12 o’clock, 12-hour counter at 6 o’clock, centre seconds) come in red.

Both models are powered by automatic movements that are reliable workhorses. The ML112 calibre for the chronograph is based on the SW500 (Sellita’s version of the Valjoux 7750). This tough, reliable cam actuated chronograph movement comes with its traditional three counters (6-9-12) dial lay-out. The calibre ML143 of the Pontos Day Date is based on the trustworthy SW200 (Sellita’s version of the ETA2824). The movement finish is traditional with côtes de Geneve and Perlage and can be viewed through the sapphire case back.

These new Maurice Lacroix Pontos models are worn on qualitative padded calf leather straps with off-white stitching. The chronograph comes in brown-orange and the day-date in ‘hazelnut’ tones. The polished brand’s trademark ‘M’ logo is applied onto the strap. Both watches are fitted with safety folding buckles.

The new range of straps for the Maurice Lacroix endows these two variants of the Pontos with different personalities while sharing the same classic yet casual style. At CHF 1,690 for the Day Date and CHF 2,690 for the Chronograph, the Maurice Lacroix Pontos offers good value for money, with a pricing reflecting the brand’s strategy towards accessible luxury. For more information, www.mauricelacroix.com.
