SIHH 2014: Recap of all the A. Lange & Söhne novelties (with LOTS of photos)

Apart from the Richard Lange Perpetual Calendar Terraluna we’ve presented you last Monday (see here) and the Grand Lange 1 Moon Phase that you have discovered through Frank’s hands-on (see here), A. Lange & Söhne revealed more new timepieces at the 2014 edition of the SIHH. Monochrome-Watches looks back on the new models of the Saxonian brand, and adds a LOAD of hands-on photos.

1815 Tourbillon / 1815 (2014)

The 1815 case is nothing new in the A. Lange & Söhne range, nor are the tourbillons. Is the 1815 Tourbillon boring? Not at all. It’s a classic interpretation of the very legible and elegant 1815 design, which always features a lot of horological sweetness. The new 1815 Tourbillon features a large tourbillon, visible through an equally large aperture in the dial, and there’s more. New is a stop-seconds mechanism (also sometimes referred to as hack system) with a Zero-Reset function.

While most modern watches feature a hack system, that stops the balance when the crown is pulled out to the setting position, this was never the case for tourbillons. The reason is that it is simply quite difficult to stop the rotation of the entire tourbillon cage, and after setting and pushing the crown back in, to start the rotation of the tourbillon cage again. With the added Zero-Reset system, the the tourbillon cage stops instantaneously and the seconds hand jumps to the zero position. That makes very easy to synchronize your 1815 Tourbillon exact to the second.

The 1815 Tourbillon’s case measures 39.5 mm in diameter and 11.1 mm high. It will be available in pink gold, priced at € 132,500 euros, and in a limited edition of 100 pieces in platinum priced at € 162,500 euros.

In the 1815 products line, we should also notice the presentation of a new version of the ‘standard’ 1815. The 1815 (2014) is a 1.5 mm smaller variation on the 1815, and has a diameter of 38.5 mm. The new 1815 (2014) is exactly 0.1 mm thicker, being 8.9 mm. Note that the 40mm version is still available.

Little Saxonia

Gentlemen, are you sometimes annoyed that your wife always borrows your Lange & Söhne? Well, we can’t blame ’em, can we? Lange and Söhne come to the rescue with the new Little Saxonia. The manufacture from Glashütte comes with a very feminine and elegant interpretation of its classical design. The smaller case – 35mm – a white or brown “mother-of-pearl” dial features a diamond-set bezel. Of course, the exterior is not the only nice part of the watch as inside is all the horological sweetness that we love Lange & Söhne for. Powered by the L941.2 movement.

Gentlemen, now there’s no excuse anymore, to let your better half borrow your own Saxonian timepiece!

Pink gold versions of the Zeitwerk Striking Time and Lange 1 Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar

Nothing new here, technically speaking, however the Lange 1 Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar, which was introduced two years ago (see here), and he Zeitwerk Striking Time (see here for more info), are now available in pink gold.
